What routers work with PIA VPN?
Many people use PIA VPN to make their traffic encrypted when they are using public WiFi at Starbucks, and many people don't know how PIA VPN works.
This article will explain how PIA VPN works and how PIA VPN works with many different routers, modems and computers.
How PIA VPN works. PIA VPN uses an advanced protocol called IPSec, which is available on most computers and routers and makes your computer or router be a gateway between your computer and the internet. You can use PIA VPN from your computer and any device that supports IPsec. In PIA VPN your router, modem, computer and smart phone are acting as a client, and your computer is acting as a server. Your device that connects to the internet is the one that you actually send data to, your computer is acting as a server. The other clients (your router, modem and smart phone) act as gateways that connect your computer to the internet.
How many devices can you have on PIA VPN?
For a single device, you can add as many as you like (the maximum is the number of available TCP/UDP ports). However, you may find that your connection drops once or twice per day for maintenance. Depending on how many devices you have and where they're located, that could be an issue.
Also, consider how many devices you want to maintain connections to. It's not at all unusual for a single-device user to have to restart their VPN several times per day, causing additional overhead. (If you do use a browser-based solution, it's likely that it will try to maintain the connection during a VPN outage, and cause more overhead than if you only reconnect when you log in.
Is PIA still a good VPN?
By Andrew Denniston May 9, 2024.
Introduction. PIA is a relatively new VPN provider that is often recommended in beginner's guides. It was founded in 2024 by three Singaporean developers. In some respects it looks like the old free VPN services that used to exist but it appears to be a genuine business rather than a scam. The company offers a free service with various limits but the real reason for using PIA is the fact that it can be paid for. As of the time of writing this review, there are 3 plan options: standard, personal and premium.
The VPN connection is fast with some good client software available for download. You get all the servers from the United States to Taiwan, Europe to Japan. To access the United Kingdom servers, you need to create an account on the site. I tried the UK server and was logged onto the UK web when using a browser but could not connect to anything else until after logging in. There are no log statements about who uses the servers and this could be a concern depending on what you want to do online. There are no details about the IP ranges they operate from or if they work through NAT. The number of servers is also fairly small.
Setup. To use PIA you must have a PC running Windows 7, 8, or 10. Mac users need to use version 6.0 of the software. These are the only versions that PIA support for right now.
You need a VPN device to connect with. This does not have to be very expensive but just something that can hold your data. This could be a laptop or a USB key, or perhaps you will build something yourself. The software is not very taxing on the device so the choice is up to you.
There is a free 7-day trial available. You get 2000MB data allowance, which is a good amount of bandwidth. This includes all data going in and out (except the server logs). However, data going out will not count as part of the free service, so if you plan on using a lot of bandwidth you should get a premium plan.
