What is crawling services?
The term Crawling services is a generic description for a wide range of website audit services.
The exact scope of work varies considerably from project to project. It can mean anything from doing a high level or very thorough audit, to something as specific as checking just one page on the site.
We've already said that crawling isn't perfect. And while it's good at finding information that is in plain text, it struggles to detect things like images, audio and videos. That's why the best crawlers are the ones that are able to make some combination of these things visible.
The reason why your crawler may not have caught some content or an element of your website is because the crawl bot wasn't able to find that piece of information. You may think that the crawler is ignoring your pages because they contain some non-textual element, but the crawler didn't know that was present, or that you had made it invisible. The best crawlers will identify these things, and the better crawlers will be able to present this information to you when they provide their report.
What type of sites should I be crawling? The first thing to do is determine what types of pages you're going to be auditing. That's not always a simple process. You could be looking to crawl just a couple of your own pages, or you could be looking to crawl your whole site. In either case, the goal is to determine the type of content that your audience is going to want to consume.
Once you've determined the types of pages that you want to crawl, you need to figure out which page types to crawl. Remember that each website will contain a number of different page types, and not all of these will apply to every page. They're like sub-categories of your pages. There are many different page types:
Home pages. About pages. Contact pages. Pages with a blog. Pages with an online store. Social media profile pages. Pages with the same name as an email address. Pages with a specific page name. Pages that redirect to other pages. This list is just the tip of the iceberg. But this gives you a good overview of what you can expect when you start crawling your own site.
What does crawling mean in eCommerce?
When we talk about crawling we are referring to the process of following every link on the page or site.
The process is initiated by a program that reads all the links in the page or site and follows them, so the crawler can find out all the information on the page, such as products, reviews, categories, etc.
The reason why the process is essential is because the crawler will be able to retrieve all the data on the page without leaving a single one of them out. Why crawling is important for eCommerce? Crawling the entire page and website is essential because it helps in identifying the content structure, which is crucial for building the website. There are a lot of features that can only be found with the help of crawling. You can crawl pages, products, categories, images, etc. The data can be used for product recommendation, search engine optimization, and so on.
What is price crawling?
Well, it is simple.
A user goes to the ebay website and places a bid for some product (eg books or music). He does not want to spend too much money, so he first starts by setting some value of minimum selling price. When this value has been set, the user will place a bid for the product for a certain price. However, if another bidder has started selling the product at this moment, the previous user may find that his first proposed bid was not accepted and the new bidder would get the right to sell the item first. This may be frustrating for the first bidder, as the new one has beaten him in getting a cheaper price for the goods. And there we have the second example of price crawling.
In the next example you can see a user who thinks that it is not expensive enough to buy a new tablet.99. The previous user gets frustrated, not only because he has been beaten in the low priced race, but also as he now has an abusive market for bad prices; the seller is taking advantage of a competitor and the newbie feels a certain inferiority over him.
This post is meant for people who think that eBay is a good thing, for sellers to start from scratch, for honest buyers and honest sellers. EBay has already been known in some communities as an honest marketplace. If you look at some forums about eBay (in a non competitive way), you will get the idea of how people in different countries think about all these words. There is always someone who wants to change them to other ones or just wants to get a new image attached to them. And this is the image of honest. An average customer is supposed to go with it and buy his/her stuff.
And of course this post is not the result of an investigation. But a quick research has taught me what my mind wanted to know. It may sound a bit harsh, but it comes straight from experience.
