A few days ago we have written an article describing how to get Family Link for Kids on iPad for free. And today, I will tell you how to use Family Link for Kids on iPhone and why it's great for parents?
Why doesn't Family Link work on iPad?
For many years we have promoted the Family Link program which offers free and open access to a wide range of federal government services to Australian families who have been waiting for their family member to pass away.
Unfortunately this includes families with children, young people and adults with disabilities (as well as families with elderly parents).
We are deeply saddened to announce that in October 2023, Family Link was discontinued for new registrations and is no longer available for families with young people under 18 years old or with parents over 70 years old. The Government announced it would not continue to subsidise Family Link for these groups after September 30 2023, after the Government stopped funding Family Tax Benefit. In 2013/2014 Family Link was discontinued for new registrations and for new claims for ongoing support. Families with a young person under 18 years old. On 6 April 2023 Family Link commenced for the first time in Australia. Since then, family members with an eligible relative have been able to apply online to get access to a number of Government services including Child Support, Child Care, the Australian Child Benefit, Child Allowance, Newstart Allowance, Parenting payment, and the Government Superannuation Pension.
Since October 2023, Family Link will no longer be available for new applications for support for families with a young person aged up to and including 18 years old. Family Link has been discontinued for new applications and for all new claims for ongoing support for a young person up to and including 18 years of age.
As this support does not extend beyond 18 years of age and the support is available only to those living in Australia at the time the service is provided, it is not available for those travelling overseas. If you have been offered Family Link and you have applied for Family Link Support for your young person up to and including 18 years old, the support can still be available to you. Contact us on how to claim support for your young person up to and including 18 years old.
More information about Family Link can be found here. You can also read about Family Tax Benefit on the DAA's Family Tax Benefit information website.
Families with elderly parents. The Age Pension and the Carer Payment allow the Government to make payments directly to aged care providers to support carers of the frail elderly. Currently, the Carer Payment provides the sole support to families with a parent over 70 years of age.
Does Family Link work on iPad?
Yes, you can sync your family's birth certificate and social security cards to your iPad via Family Link from your home computer.
There is a little more setup needed for doing this on the iPad, however. You need to go through some very simple steps:
Turn off your computer or reboot it and then. Connect the cable from your computer to the Apple iPad that will be using Family Link on it. Now you will be asked if you want to reset the password on Family Link. Once that is done you will be able to sign in to Family Link with your home computer username and password. At this point you can get started syncing your family information to the iPad. The good news is that if you don't have an iCloud account for your home computer, you can still get access to your family information by connecting the iOS device directly to your computer.
With that, you now know the steps to access Family Link and get your family information on the iPad.
How does Family Link work?
Family Link is a great way for families, with children under 18 years old, to access free and low-cost health care and other family services.
Our trained Family Link workers connect with families with young children or those experiencing a new child birth to ensure they get the right care and information in a non-judgemental way. From supporting a family after a domestic violence crisis, to connecting them with the next-step care or treatment, Family Link has been helping families like yours for over 30 years. We can help by:
Providing support while you're struggling to juggle the demands of work and parenting. Ensuring you have help managing other stresses in your life, such as caring for someone with a disability, having mental health problems or being a victim of domestic violence. Assisting if your child is pregnant, going to university or needs social or educational support. Talking to you and your family about how we can help with health insurance and financial planning. Our Family Link workers. All our Family Link workers are highly trained to talk to families in a non-judgemental way about their concerns and needs. Helping families find solutions: from finding a good GP for children or dealing with unexpected costs. Helping them decide whether they should keep their child or have a baby again, finding more child care for younger children or connecting them with social supports, such as a lawyer or financial adviser. The workers also help to arrange services through the health system, including the Women's and Children's Health (WCH) Service, the General Practice Service and the Department of Education's Family Support Program.
Supporting parents and other carers who need to focus on other priorities because they are caring for a young child or other vulnerable member of their family. For example, Family Link works with families in Victoria who have a family member who has a disability that requires care, as well as with people who may need help dealing with other responsibilities because they are caring for a new baby or a child with a life-threatening illness.
Supporting families who have experienced domestic violence, where one or both parents may have serious health or psychological issues. Family Link supports abused women and men with immediate safety needs as well as connecting them with support and treatment. There are also dedicated Family Link workers to support children born to new mothers as well as children with special needs or disability.
How do I set up Family Link on my iPad?
The Family Link option allows you to save Family Information for your children on your Apple iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod touch), providing you with one place to view and manage all the important information you want to share between the apps that you use on your Apple iOS device, including: You can see if your child is enrolled in Family Link by tapping on the Enrolled in Family Link badge, and then tap on their name on the Apple ID menu. From there, you can easily access their information. You can also turn off Family Link on any Apple iOS device by going to your Profile page on the Apple iOS device, select Parental Controls and toggle Family Link off.
If my children already have an iTunes or Apple ID, do they have to sign up for another one? No. Once they are enrolled in the Family Link program, their existing account is recognized and they don't need to sign up for a new Apple ID. All data and content associated with that account is transferred, without interruption.
If my children already have an Apple ID and Family Link turned off on their Apple iOS device, can I turn it back on? Yes. When you turn the Family Link service off on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (iOS 9.3 or later), existing content on your device will remain, but the device will be unable to recognize new Family Link content that is created for your child. If you turn the Family Link service back on in Settings, that content and data that was already on your device will be restored to it.
When turning on the Family Link service on an Apple iOS device, a message will appear stating "This information will be added to your existing Family Link profile." Do I need to sign in to my iCloud account to make changes? Once your existing Family Link data is installed, a warning message will appear asking whether to delete existing content. Simply tap "Keep Existing Content" to allow existing content to continue being stored.
Why is there an Enrollment Status Badge on the Apple ID screen? Your Enrollment Status is based on your privacy settings. If you've shared an Apple ID with anyone (Family Members, Classmates, etc.), you will always see a status badge next to the Apple ID name.
