How do I access OpenVPN on Android?

Once you have purchased the device, set up OpenVPN on your computer first.

Once it is installed and running correctly, you need to set up a new application on your phone. Go to the Play Store. Search for "OpenVPN", and install that.

To begin connecting to the VPN server from Android, log in through the application to access the VPN client config file (vpn.client). You need to connect the client VPN connection to a server at some point. If you are using a Linux-based server, it should already be configured with the network-manager-openvpn package installed and working. There are tutorials showing this process in detail, if you don't want to try it on your own, but they are quite lengthy and don't cover every step. You should be able to get something running pretty quickly. If not, you can see how the process works in detail.

Troubleshooting. This might take a bit of time to work correctly; it is still very new, but I will update this section as needed. After you have set up the server and clients and connected to the VPN, there may be issues. The following may help, but it doesn't fix all problems.

If you are not receiving a confirmation screen, start with the following: First, open the vpn. It should look something like: auth auth-user-pass. (username) (password). For OpenVPN, always put a space in between the credentials. If they look right, type them in below and it should work. See the "Using the Auth File" section for more details on setting up this file.

You might have a NAT issue. It is possible the remote/home servers are behind NATs, so the traffic might not be able to pass through properly. Check that the destination IP address you use to connect to the VPN is not NATted. You should use the IP address of the vpn.client file, not the public IP. Otherwise, you will likely hit NAT issues.

Is OpenVPN available for Android?

We have tried several OpenVPN clients on Android and most of them are only for the Android phones.

We have found some nice apps, but most of them are not open source, you can't find the code. There was a problem with our Samsung S3 tablet (running Android 4.1). VPNs can be expensive, but we recommend buying a decent VPN plan.95, which you can use to protect up to five devices.

You can also buy a VPN for every device, but we recommend sticking to just one device person, as most people find it easier to manage a single VPN connection than five or six. Is there a cheaper VPN I can use? There are some cheap VPNs you can use, but they may not provide a good experience. We've tried some VPNs in the past and some of them aren't worth using.

If you're looking for a VPN that has a reasonable price, but isn't great, you can try using a VPN with a free trial. These tend to work well, but if you don't like the service, you can just cancel the trial before your trial period expires.
