How many Google Play refunds can you do?

We've already done quite a few, but how many is enough? This blog post was written by Daniel Sperling, and originally appeared on his blog at ichart.com.

One of the most interesting aspects of Google Play is that it lets you do refunds. It's not a simple thing, though. Let's take a look at what happens.

First, some background. I have a HTC One M9, a very nice phone. It came with the original Android 7.0 Nougat (but I've upgraded it to the latest version, Android 8.0 Oreo). As you may know, the manufacturer of the phone (HTC) provides two apps for developers to test their apps in the Android store: the first one is the Google Play Store app itself, and the second one is the App Store app (which isn't officially part of the Google Play ecosystem). The main difference between the two apps is that the Google Play Store app lets you install any app you like. The App Store app lets you download only the apps you chose to be installed. You can still choose any app you like, but it won't be downloaded unless you choose to.

I got sick of waiting, so I figured, "Why not just download the App Store app from the Google Play Store app?" Well, I'm not happy about it, but it worked. I didn't realize that once you install an app from the Google Play Store app, the App Store app disappears from the screen. There's no way to get back to it. I tried going to the Play Store app, but it's nowhere to be found. That's a bit of a bummer, because I didn't want to use the Google Play Store app any more. I just wanted the App Store app.

That's why I started to experiment with this idea. What would happen if I deleted the Google Play Store app from my phone? Would I be able to use the App Store app again, or would it disappear too? I installed the Android Studio app, which is an IDE (integrated development environment) for Android apps. This means that when you install this app from the Google Play Store, you also get an Android emulator on your phone, as well as a bunch of other things. You can't actually run apps on the emulator, but you can try them out on your phone.
