What level of domain is a subdomain?
Is it OK to have a subdomain (eg www.example.com) that is at the same level of security as a root domain (eg example.com)
Can I put eg www.com on a production server, which has user accounts and SSL/TLS certificates, or do I need to give its own subdomain? If so, what about the ability to update DNS records for it? Would it better to have two domains (eg example.com and www.com) or would it be fine to just have one domain and a wildcard record for the subdomain?
1) A subdomain should always be at a different level than the root, so www.com should not have access to the same resources as example.com) Having your site in the subdomain makes it easier to setup and manage SSL as well as gives you a second location to set up your website.
2) If you want to use SSL for your subdomain, you'll need to get a certificate for it. I haven't tried it, but there are a few sites out there that let you manage the SSL certificate for your subdomain from within your root. I believe it is called subdomain certificate. I am not sure about the ability to update DNS records for it, but if you need to update the A records for the subdomain, you will have to contact your ISP to change the records.
3) If you can't use subdomains, then using a wildcard record is the next best solution. In the wildcard record you just point your DNS to the root domain. There is some overhead with having the subdomain, but it's pretty small.
4) The way to go for me would be to have subdomains for each of my websites.
What is the difference between a domain and a subdomain?
A domain is just a collection of several subdomains.
A .com website contains a primary domain of example.com and a secondary domain of www.
A subdomain is its own, individual website in a broader domain name. For example, there is an example.com and a www. The www.com is a separate website from example.
Can you give me examples? Google.com and www.google.com are two examples of domains. Google.com is the primary domain for Google search and Google.com/blog is a subdomain for Google's blog.
The primary domain for Facebook is facebook. There is also facebook.com/home, facebook.com/about, and facebook.com/games.
Twitter.com is a domain, and you can find several Twitter accounts at twitter.com/accounts including twitter.com/about, twitter.com/logout, and twitter.com/timeline.
Yahoo.com is the primary domain for Yahoo, and yahoo.com/toys and yahoo.com/news are subdomains for the Yahoo Toys and News sections, respectively.
What does the underscore in example.com mean? In a domain name, underscores () are used as separators between subdomains and parameters. For example, when you type example.com, your browser goes to the website for the example.com subdomain. If you have a blog on blog.com, then a request for example.com/blog goes to the blog.
The means there is only one subdomain: example. What does the www mean? The www is just a way to signify that the website or subdomain uses a web version of itself.

What is the difference between a subdomain and a third-level domain?
Subdomains are smaller than domains and they are the lowest levels of a domain.
This means that subdomains can be created within the domain name and not break the structure of the domain. This can be done by choosing a subdomain name from the domain name itself.
For example. Www.domainname.com can be converted to domainname.
To be specific, the www.com can be converted to example.
While a subdomain has no domain name, a third-level domain has a domain name. The third-level domain name is created from the subdomain name itself and it is unique. To know how to create a third-level domain, let's see the basic steps for creating a domain.
Steps for Creating a Domain. When you want to create a domain, you have to go through the following steps. The first step is choosing a domain name that you want. The domain name is a top-level domain name. For example, domain.com, domain.net, or domain.org.
You can choose one domain name, but you can also create three domain names from a domain name at the same time. The second step is choosing a hosting service. The hosting service is a domain name registrar. For example, domainname.com or 123-reg.uk.
123-reg is a domain name registrar company. The next step is configuring the DNS. The DNS is a domain name system that is responsible for resolving the domain name. It converts a domain name to an IP address.
For example, domainname.com to www.
The last step is adding the domain name to the hosting service. Before moving on to the third-level domain creation process, let's first see some other types of domain names. There are two kinds of top-level domain names: country code top-level domain (ccTLD) and generic top-level domain (gTLD). CcTLD is used in the following cases: If a domain name is registered in a specific country. If a domain name is registered in the country of the owner. Examples of ccTLDs are:uk (United Kingdom), .us (United States), and .
