Is Iron browser any good?

My last experience with IE was in Windows XP.

There was a security hole I could hit on their forums that would force all browsers to download a Trojan. I was not impressed.

What are your impressions of iron? Edit: This is a real life scenario. At work, they only use IE for one computer. We have a Mac and a PC.

The other two have Ubuntu installed. If the computer we are trying to use IE on has a OSX installation, when you visit a site that uses this technique to download spyware or malware.

The computer's screen goes black and then you get pop-ups telling you to install a virus shield. Is there a way to fix this? When you say "spyware or malware", I'm assuming it might be a virus -- which I've heard can be rather tricky to deal with in linux. Is there any way to detect and remove that from the ubuntu machine? And if a computer cannot access the internet, it makes sense that it'll just boot to some local web pages (which can be really annoying). I've been in situations like this before, and had to do without internet to be able to work.

If it can load local files, like images, and you just can't browse over the internet, I'd simply set that box up with a local webserver running. It's easier and less frustrating if you have an alternative method of internet access. Then, at least you can have something to work with.

To fix the local web problem, you're going to need to set up a local IP address to use when it doesn't have an external IP and run a server as a web application. I've played with this sort of thing before using apache and php5 (aside from running it off of my local IP), but didn't actually manage to get it running without windows at the time.

I would advise against using IE on a mac. Just because you can run it, doesn't mean it's good for macs.
