Can US citizens travel to Canada without a passport?

If you are a US citizen, then yes. But, you will need to get a visa before leaving the US.

If you are not a citizen of the United States and intend to travel from the United States to Canada you must present proof of your identity, nationality and citizenship (such as a passport) when you enter Canada. If you do not have these documents, you will not be permitted to enter Canada. If you wish to enter Canada without a passport or any proof of citizenship or nationality, you will be refused entry into Canada.

This map uses data from Statistics Canada and the Canadian Bureau of the Census. Cities are listed according to the ratio of per capita median net worth (that's the amount of money a household with a median income has) to the cost of living. The bigger the ratio, the more unaffordable the city is.

Cities are ranked on a scale of zero to one, with the top city scoring 1. The data only covers 2023 to 2023.

Source: Business Profiles. Vancouver, Ontario, Toronto. Toronto makes it into the top three by virtue of its economy, which is booming but also incredibly expensive (by Canadian standards). The country's two most populous provinces Ontario and British Columbia combine to hold a large share of Canada's total population. However, the provinces themselves also offer some of the world's priciest housing markets.

The two metropolises also happen to have some of the most expensive real estate in the country. Toronto, in particular, comes into play when you look at these costs. Between 2023 and 2023, Canada's median property prices increased between 16.3 and 17.8 percent annually. In 2023, property prices in Toronto saw yet another uptick, with the market rising 8.5 percent in the last three months of that year. That's on top of a 6.7 percent surge since 2023.

That may not sound too bad until you find out the cost of living is so high it was ranked the 13th most unaffordable city on Earth last year. According to the 2023 Business Profiles Index for Cost of Living in Canada, Toronto and Vancouver rank third and fourth, respectively, on the list of cities with the highest median net worth to living costs.

That means, if a couple were to spend 25 percent of their disposable income on average rent (per person), they could only save 35.5 percent of their earnings on a monthly basis. So, this would affect their ability to save for retirement or for other financial goals.

Ottawa. Canadians are increasingly feeling that their country needs a national leader and Ottawa seems to be an ideal city to represent that. Ottawa was recently home to the largest immigration boom in the country's history.

Is Canada good to live at?

In an age of anti-immigration and anti-Muslim sentiment, I asked 10 Canadians who have settled in Alberta for their take on the place to live. We all know Canada as a place of tolerance and diversity, but has it always been that way? In an age of anti-immigration and anti-Muslim sentiment, I thought it would be interesting to get a view from the other side of the border, so to speak. From the perspective of people living here who had to move out for a variety of reasons to a land down under we have always considered more or less as enemies.

So when I asked ten Canadians who have moved to Alberta for their opinions of Canada, it's a no-brainer what the result would be: There would be some serious differences between this nation and the places some of these people called home. The most surprising part of the results was the general agreement among most respondents that there was nothing uniquely Canadian about Canada. I guess most of the comments here should really be taken as the opinions of the person writing them. But nonetheless, they do stand out as something new. The responses I received were not so much the voice of Canada as the voice of Canadians, and that, in itself, says something about this country.

So here is the survey with 10 answers from Canadians who have lived in Alberta. They came to Canada for different reasons, the most common being economic opportunities. As my fellow Albertans can attest, Calgary has been doing better economically than other cities because of the energy industry, especially since the price of oil began to rise in the early 2000s. It is, however, far from guaranteed, and the people we interviewed who left Alberta all did so for that reason.

When I asked people why they had moved to Canada, I received five different responses. A few said that they had just moved from wherever they were before. One said he just wanted a new life. Several more said they wanted to raise their families and that Canada offered a great place for that. And finally, one person came from Saudi Arabia and didn't believe he could find another job with his expertise. He didn't want to go back home. All in all, it seemed that economic opportunity was a great motivation for many people to move here.

Canada, as mentioned in an earlier post, is not only a land of tolerance, diversity and multiculturalism.

On November 18, Canada, alongside Mexico, introduced draft legislation designed to give effect to the new trade agreement with the United States known as the USMCThe bill, called the Customs Modernization Act, amends Canada's existing Customs Tariff Act, currently in force since January 1st 1992. The import tariff will enter into force after July 1st next year. In particular, with the adoption of this Act, the Government of Canada would like to give effect to the new trade agreement with the United States known as the USMCA (the Agreement). In addition, as part of a bilateral investment treaty between Canada and the United States entered into force on February 29, 2023 (the Treaty), certain investment rules and dispute settlement mechanisms under section 534 of the USMCA are made part of this Act.

Canada did not need to have a US trade deal to protect domestic businesses because it already has a free trade deal between the two countries - CETA signed in 2023. Moreover, under Section 594 (2)(b) of the USMCA, the two countries already have a dispute resolution mechanism whereby they are able to settle issues regarding unfair treatment in Canada or the United States with a panel of arbitrators in each other's respective countries, and Canada did not need to sign the agreement in order to use it. Moreover, if Canada had a US trade deal but did not want to use the dispute settlement mechanism under Section 594, that would have allowed Canada to use a unilateral dispute settlement mechanism within Section 4 of the agreement, which also did not require Canada to sign it.
