How do I hide browsing history from WiFi owner?

0 and higher, we can disable the history of our browsing activity while browsing through a website or application using a web proxy that allows us to hide it from our ISP (Internet Service Provider). How can I do it?

Android 4.0 and higher have a built-in DNS Service called "DNS over TLS", as well as the use of the "dns-offline" app.

However, if your WiFi owner is a little paranoid, you're in luck. There are two apps that will intercept your traffic on their WiFi network.

WiFox, at least as of May 2025, only intercepts HTTP, but offers an interface to manually add sites. You may also need to install a root app like FireKiller or Root Explorer, or do adb shell and use the system.setNetworkControl function.

Also, this might be helpful as well. It appears that if one of your friends wants to steal your data, they could just turn off "dns-offline". I'm not exactly sure how it works since they haven't released anything, but the Reddit link has information about it.

Can WiFi owner see my search history even if I delete it?

I search on Android with Chrome.

I don't want it to be able to see the search history. I do not want my phone to give them an idea what I search for, even if I delete it from history. I understand that by clearing the data for my Google account then this doesn't affect the history but how can I restrict my phone from being able to search on it? Is it possible to restrict this from happening. I am using LG G3.

For me, it was a combination of Google Play Protect and Chrome. The reason: Google Play Protect uses the same storage space as you, so if there is room available to your privacy settings (eg when "Free up storage" checkbox is disabled), then their are no more room available to your own privacy settings. And therefor, if your privacy settings only allow Google to use your private data (and not any other app, which might also store your browsing data in the same place), then you have to switch off Play Protect if your storage has enough room for your privacy settings (and even better would be to clear the app's cache first). Chrome: The data (history and cookies) can always be recovered. While it shows that it may not be easily possible to retrieve the search history from deleted content (eg history on a "cleared" Chrome one device), it is just a security feature to minimize the chance that the user is unknowingly giving away too much information that could lead to a security breach. However, once it has been cleared, you can easily recover that information.

The question however is: Is it really desirable to remove this security feature because there are some apps out there (for example, to get a free movie tickets) that allows a limited access to your past searches?

If your WiFi provider logs all your internet activities to improve your online experience, then they are tracking you as you go about your day-to-day browsing, and more importantly, they know what you searched for on the web.

Your search history is a valuable asset, so it's normal that Internet service providers will track and store your browsing history. It is a very helpful tool to know that you visited this website, or to know that you frequently visit this website, but is it alright for your Internet provider to be keeping records of everything you do? This is especially important to know when you use shared WiFi.e. If your ISP knows what websites you visit, then even if you're behind a firewall and have your own router, they can still see what sites you visited.

The reason why Internet providers want to keep this information is because they think that this will help them offer more targeted services to you. So your mobile phone provider will use your search history to try and target you to make more ads. Or your cable company will use your search history to try and find new advertising customers. This could include not only seeing what you've been searching for online, but it can also include listening in on your conversations and reading your emails.

A VPN will hide your browsing history, and can prevent your Internet provider from tracking your browsing activities. But, it is not 100% foolproof because a VPN does have its limitations.

But there are also some very cheap VPNs that may do a terrible job and slow down your Internet speeds. And there are also many free VPNs that you can download for free, and they aren't necessarily any safer than those that cost money.

Why is your Internet provider tracking your search history? Most Internet providers will tell you that they are collecting your data so that they can give you a better experience online. They are doing this to inform their advertising.

If you are an Internet provider, they will get paid if you know what your customers are looking for online. As an example, if you sell premium packages, then you will be able to offer these extra features if you can see which websites they are going to.
