What is alternative for Digital Wellbeing?

Wellbeing is a concept which has become increasingly popular. It's all about taking care of yourself, giving attention to your mental health and wellbeing in order to improve your ability to be at your best and to get more out of your life. Digital Wellbeing is a term that is being used by psychologists and researchers and it was coined about 10 years ago by Susan Greenfield. The BBC did a series on the subject and you can watch it online here.

A lot of the research we've done into the topic found that only around 9% of adults regularly take part in Digital Wellbeing. So what are the reasons that aren't doing this? The main one seems to be that not enough people are aware of the benefits of doing so. When we think of wellbeing we mostly think of physical health but we forget that mental health is equally important. In the past digital wellbeing was seen as an area for parents to use, to stop their kids using things which were harmful to them or to prevent children damaging their own or other peoples data. The main areas of focus have included internet safety and filtering apps, social media platforms, games and messaging applications.

Recently there has been more work being done looking at the impact of phones, tablets and smart watches on sleep and wellbeing. In particular children have been found to have a lot more screen time than many people realise. Some people believe that they're just getting better at shutting off the screens but in reality they can't just switch them off and so end up lying in bed for hours. This has a negative impact on their sleep and makes them tired when they wake up, affecting their mood and behaviour throughout the day. One paper published in May of 2023, found that having screens in bedrooms for over 9 hours affects the ability to concentrate the next day.

There's evidence of a number of adverse consequences, including insomnia, poor grades and impaired memory. There's also some links between screen time and depression and anxiety. These are just some of the more obvious examples, there's more information and research on the various topics if you look for it on the web.

There's a common myth that adults who struggle with technology and who have anxiety often just need more patience and there are some things that make this untrue.

How do I limit screen time on Digital Wellbeing?

You have four options to limit screen time when using Digital Wellbeing: Select the days and hours you want to turn off. Select the specific days on which you'd like your screen time to be limited. For example, if you want to limit access to your device from 6 a.m. To 11 p., but not on weekends or public holidays, the Days of the Week option becomes available.

You can select as many days as you want and choose from a large variety of time intervals. Use the buttons below to change the times for each option.

For example, you can choose 3am-6am instead of midnight for 12am-3am to limit your child's screens just during school hours. You can also set different times on different days.

You can have multiple hours set for each day. For example, if you only want your daughter to use her iPad 2 pm to 5 pm, simply go to the hours menu for 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday and choose Turn Off for 3am-5am. The Turn Off option will only be available for your child's selected time periods and will ignore other settings. For example, her phone and TV will be off from 3 am to 5 am, but if she had an iPad 1 in the bedroom, it will remain awake throughout these hours.

Use the buttons below to switch between time settings and set any days. To remove all limits, clear the date.

Once you've changed the specific times you'd like to limit on a specific day, then Save and the options will be set permanently. If you want to turn off screens across the board, click the date that's already selected above. Select the hours when you would like to turn off screens. These will override the specific days of the week.

How do I set usage time for different apps? You can customize which apps should get screen time only when you specifically open them and are away from your desk. Apps can be limited to be accessed only when away from your desk (while you are mobile).

Open Settings>General> Usage. Scroll down to the Allocation tab and select the option Only when away.

What is Digitox app?

The Digitox app and its features are specifically designed to provide assistance to your children. Children can play games that promote logic reasoning and memory functions that help the child practice math skills including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and finding percentages with a range of numbers from 1 to 25. Games also have an option to learn vocabulary in conjunction with a word game. In addition to this, kids get the opportunity to take tests and earn badges in categories such as Math, Vocabulary and Science, as well as complete quizzes. Parents are given the opportunity to monitor and track their child's progress by adding or deleting games and also viewing their child's report card.

This app is extremely beneficial for young children. It provides them with a fun way of learning while enhancing their social skills. For most children ages 5 - 12, playing games is a fun, interesting, engaging experience and in this age group, learning new skills is just as fun.

Digitox is a great way of introducing math concepts to the child and using the app in conjunction with the tutor system is recommended for providing greater academic success. The tutorial mode feature is also very helpful for children who struggle with writing, grammar and spelling. Children do not need to be proficient in these areas to benefit from the app. They only need to interact with the tutors and try to perform tasks that relate to the subject that is being taught.

For some children, the challenge is to master all levels and the ones they find hardest may include: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, learning basic arithmetic facts, adding fractions and the use of common mathematical equations. What is the cost of using Digitox? The price covers all lessons on the platform for all enrolled children. A user's account will remain active for a period of six months. During this period the child's scores, progress report, test history and grade will be automatically displayed. The child's name and parent or guardian account information will be displayed in the child's profile in the mobile device. Parents will be able to update this profile with additional information. Users who require more frequent monitoring can pay extra to subscribe to additional accounts.
