Where is the OpenVPN config file?
I have OpenVPN running on my server, I'm able to connect fine to the server using my Windows computer.
However when I try and use my Android device (which is able to connect to my server without any problems) to connect to my OpenVPN server, I get "Bad config file".
The OpenVPN config file should be located at /etc/openvpn/server.conf but I don't know where it should be saved on my Android phone. It's probably something simple but I just can't seem to find it anywhere.
I've tried the following things already: Set the config file to "auto" as per the guide here: Tried adding the config file to the /sdcard/ directory in my phone (where the Android client application is installed). My Android device has OpenVPN running and connecting fine, I can access my server via my Android device as well as my Windows device. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to make it work for my Android device? I'm trying to setup a small LAN for our company which will be used for communication between computers within the network. We're currently using VPNs and I'm trying to find a way to do this securely and efficiently. The server that I'm planning on setting up has 2 IP addresses and I'd like to use them to help maintain my own security.
I would like to create an internal server that people can connect to and use as a network. I would like it to be completely secure from outside attack and that any data sent over the network is encrypted. What is the best way to accomplish this?
I am trying to configure a VPN server with OpenVPN for my home network. My router is running DD-WRT. My plan is to configure the OpenVPN server to connect to the DD-WRT router and forward traffic through the VPN tunnel. Is this a reasonable plan? I have heard it is not good to run VPN servers on routers.
I am trying to setup a vpn on my raspberry pi running openvpn, however it keeps telling me I have bad credentials, or my password is wrong. I have set the server.conf to: server 10.8.
How do I set up OpenVPN for free?
The first question is the most important: ?
It's a great, free, open source solution. I have read through a lot of information and still have not found a good, simple guide for setting up OpenVPN for free. It is very complicated. It involves a lot of work and configuration. If I am going to set this up, I want to be able to do it in a short amount of time, so that I can test the connections without waiting days.
My main concern is to do this on a small network that I use for testing. The computers are all connected to a wireless router using standard wifi.e. The routers are on the same network.
I do not want to use OpenVPN on a dedicated server or on my main desktop. The only computers that need OpenVPN are the servers and the testing computers. I would like to be able to access the computers that need to be connected to the Internet directly from anywhere on the network (they do not need to be internet accessible from the outside world).
So far I have tried openvpn with the default settings. This was the easiest to get working and it did work, but it was so complicated and time consuming. It took about 3 hours for me to get it working.
I also tried OpenVPN on my desktop computer. It was easy to set up. It worked on the first try. I was able to access the computers that needed to be connected to the Internet. The problem is that I cannot access the internet from the computers on my local network. The way I set this up was that I used the VPN client on my laptop and connected it to my VPN router. This way I could access the internet from the desktop computer. Then I could connect to my VPN server on my laptop.
This setup does not work for me. I want to be able to connect directly to the internet from the computers on my local network.
If I just use openvpn to connect my desktop to the VPN server and not use the VPN router, then I am able to connect to the internet directly from my desktop. But I cannot access the computers that need to be connected to the Internet directly. The openVPN server must be on the VPN router.
I am trying to get the best solution possible. I have not found a simple, working solution.
Is OpenVPN still free?
I just read an article by someone who ran a site (he didn't name it) that has a high bandwidth requirement that uses OpenVPN. The server doesn't have the bandwidth to serve all the data it needs, and using OpenVPN, they can serve the data.
He's using OpenVPN as a backup for when bandwidth isn't available. When it is available, OpenVPN would act like a regular HTTP server. I was wondering if this is a common usage of OpenVPN (though, I don't know if it's typical that people use it this way).
It's not typical, but I have seen many clients implement it this way. The one you cited is pretty unusual in that the client is doing most of the work - in essence, the server is a proxy. But, they could set up a second server behind a load balancer to take over, if needed.
Most people who are setting up VPNs do it because they need to connect between different networks which have different policies on how much data they allow out and what protocols they'll allow outbound. To prevent them from getting blacklisted, they'll use a VPN as a means to pass traffic between their internal network and the public network. It's pretty rare to find a non-professional who would be using their own local network (LAN) as a sort of tunnel to get around some network owner's restrictions.
