Why does ExpressVPN not work sometimes?
Is it my network settings?
Or are they working and I just can't connect, and why is that? I don't understand. It has nothing to do with my network settings.
My Network Settings: My Router - TP-LINK N600 v1 3rd Gen (Version 13.2A5) Cable/DSL modem - Huawei HiLink AC1400, 1st generation. Wireless: TP-LINK Wireless AC1200 Dual band router (Version 1.25) OS: Windows 10 Home Edition (x64), Version 1803 (May 2025 Update). I have tried the following options to fix it but didn't work for me: Check VPN connection and disconnect and reconnect. Check the proxy option in Advanced Proxy Settings. Check all the settings to make sure nothing is blocking internet access. This happens occasionally, and my connection drops for maybe a second. Then I try connecting again, and it doesn't work again. So in the case that it fails this way on the first try I have to restart the router to make the connection go through.
So what causes this? How do I prevent it from happening? What am I doing wrong? Is there anything I can do about it? Edit: I fixed it by unchecking the box and clicking on Connect. Even though that box says connect I think that was a temporary fix, like when some things are broken on my system temporarily until a proper update comes up.
If I have a router and can connect without problems, while with ExpressVPN I always get the message on my phone telling me the connection failed. Then I would have to refresh, and click on disconnect again (and then connect) on my computer as well.
I will try to test everything by removing the ExpressVPN account. Also will look for the option to add the VPN manually. Maybe the account settings are causing that it disconnects when I connect. If you can give me some help here as well.
EDIT #2: I have removed the ExpressVPN account and logged out and back in to my router. I'm not sure what is making the connection fail right now. If there is no ExpressVPN it works normally. I will keep watching.
Why is ExpressVPN taking so long to load?
Do you often get the ExpressVPN load screen before you reach your destination, but then after entering your login and password you find the service working just fine?
I've noticed lately that loading times are significantly slower when using ExpressVPN. Why is this? @Fibra It loads for me in less than 20 seconds. @MigosI am having the exact problem, it loads very fast for 3-5 seconds, then it's slow. I was in a war zone, but it seems to load faster now. I had it uninstalled for about a week and when I reinstalled it, it was slow again. @VonTheFlyz
@VonTheFlyz @Fibra @Migos I use an S5, 16GB, I bought it in 2025 with ExpressVPN and it used to be around 15 seconds. Now it's at least 30 or 40 and takes almost 5 minutes to unplug. Jody (@sv4) November 8, 2016
My issue was also speed but now it's gone for good as after the update it has been at least 30 seconds even on broadband speeds. @VonTheFlyz @fibra I tried the vpn in France yesterday, the speed was just too low I can't even download a new vpn client or something. I'm going to use my old connection from my university to download expressvpn @VonTheFlyz This is not true. I got it from France and I get a speed of 10 Mbps while I'm out of the country (I am using my phone wifi). It's a great service when you don't want to use open internet through the VPN for the country where you live.
@fibra and @vontheflyz if you can access Netflix in your country why bother spending money on it? @MigosIamMigos (@AJinmao) November 8, 2025. @AJinmao Because when I travel to foreign countries I need to open an incognito session of YouTube and play all my videos with my VPN installed. It's a useful thing to do.
Why is my ExpressVPN stuck on disconnecting?
Does it really work?
VPNs. They're everywhere. All of your Internet traffic is covered by someone somewhere between your internet router and your final destination, be it the office, your game, or wherever in-between. To make sure that your connection isn't ever hijacked, you need to protect the last mile. You can use a VPN to disguise the IP you actually come from, leaving you open and unencrypted to the dangers of the world wide web.
Using a VPN is one of those simple and easy things that seems pretty scary when you get right into it. The main thing is that it requires little to no setup on your end. Just download and install it!
But the problem comes if you are looking for serious protection, like ExpressVPN or something of that sort. It's like choosing a gun against the best military weapons; it doesn't make sense. But ExpressVPN, it works. And it's so easy to set up. All you have to do is download the app, create an account, and within 5 seconds, you're ready to go. It sounds crazy, right? It sure does. But here are some facts to enlighten you if you need to set it up or if your current setting is wrong.
Your internet service provider will probably not give a shit. Even if ExpressVPN says they cover all legal activities on the web (which I doubt) your ISP will probably ignore it. Even if your router is configured to hide the fact that you're using an VPN, chances are your provider's server has seen every bit of traffic you've ever done over your connection, and ExpressVPN didn't even say anything on how to conceal your real IP; as far as you they don't care. They only care about hiding your true IP so that your identity isn't stolen.
Now, if you're one of the few weirdos that tries to protect your true identity through a VPN (that has been proven to be useless for that purpose), a VPN isn't for you.
