What is a free VPN? There are multiple ways to secure your network using Internet protocol security tools. The most affordable, effective, and convenient solution is to use a free VPN service. A VPN is a virtual private network which provides an encrypted connection for your computer or mobile devices.

Free VPN services allow you to browse websites, conduct business, or access social media sites without fear of being tracked, caught or exposed. If you are interested in securing the network, especially on devices like mobile phones, laptops and desktops, it may be a sensible decision to consider a free VPN service in order to access such internet content in a secure manner.

A VPN connection works as a tunnel that redirects your data through a third-party server before reaching the target website or internet service. What makes these free VPNs so different is that they usually employ a paid subscription model. That means they usually provide a free plan, a trial period or another way to earn more money. While this can definitely seem like a disadvantage, there are quite a few reasons to choose a free VPN for your Internet needs.

For instance, using a free VPN makes perfect sense for the following reasons: A free VPN is probably the most affordable solution. Even if you just want to try out a free VPN, there is likely to be a trial period. In some cases, you can even avoid setting up a paid account altogether.

A free VPN service provider is unlikely to sell your data. Unlike some other paid VPN services, they usually don't sell access to your information or your personal details, thus making it impossible for them to sell it to any outside parties.

Free VPNs are also safe to use. It's safe to say that free and paid VPN services will deliver great security but free ones are unlikely to be malicious at all.

Free VPNs are easy to use.

Is there a 100% free VPN?

I know that there are several options for free VPNs but I am looking for a 100% free VPN with no restrictions of any kind. In my searches I have found the Hotspot Shield to be the most popular. Can anyone give me advice on this as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using the Hotspot Shield?

They really aren't 100% free. They may give you all the features, but you do have to pay a subscription.

It's completely down to your use. Do you want the ability to watch movies or live TV shows over the internet? Is that ok for you? Can you have it so your device is totally anonymous and you can surf the web or browse email without being followed or having anything tracked? There are quite a few services out there. However, most require some kind of payment in exchange for certain functionality. That said, there are some that simply provide the service and give you an IP address which is not associated with them. Which I think would answer your question about 100% free.

@carlosk: I was thinking about some similar options that I haven't used yet. I am going to wait to see if someone else has a recommendation before I go out and sign up for anything. Thank you for your response.

JeffDec 18 '10 at 0:19. @Jeff: If you can afford it, I'd recommend just buying an HD cable subscription or better yet, an IPTV service. They'll still be more than enough for most purposes.

@Carlozk: Exactly what I have been thinking. I like to be able to watch Live TV and there are many channels that just don't have a TV-subscription option available.

There is a client for each of these operating systems, except for Blackberry, which has its own client. To get a Hotspot Shield client for Blackberry, go to the Hotspot Shield website, click on "Download Hotspot Shield", select the OS you have, and download the client. It should then install automatically, or you can double-click the downloaded file to run it.
