I'm an indie author and I write copy for my books in the last 20% of the book and it's been a slow process of learning and trial and error. I've read a lot of books on writing, but most of them are quite complex and they tend to be aimed at advanced writers who have already produced some work. Does anyone have a tried and tested method of writing copy? A quick-fix that will enable me to write more quickly and improve my work? Plot ideas - these help to structure the story in my head and keep me focused. Characters (for both main characters and secondary characters) - this helps with characterisation and getting to know my characters better. Timelines - helps me make sure the whole story works. Dialogue and action - for the major scenes. And then I work out how to write those things as notes. I don't write by the seat of my pants. This is a very deliberate process.
