Question: Is manual testing a good career or should I wait for some time? I am interested in the technology, business management as well as people aspect. Do companies really hire a QA/Testing person? What qualifications do I need to get a job with them? I know that I can automate the testing process, I also have experience of working with the software like C#, RTFM and TFS. I understand that you want a "straight-out answer" but there are literally thousands of companies in the world - you don't have to be in one of them to work for them and be an effective QA person. It takes a very unique skill set, which might not be readily transferable. You must understand both the software development aspect, as well as the organizational aspect. You will have to test what is built, and you'll probably also have to coordinate with developers to test changes in the future.

And if you work on products related to healthcare, insurance, safety. Just imagine how many things could go wrong - you'll almost certainly have to know the specifics of the business side of the company and how it operates to succeed there. Do I say success?because that's a big question, but the key is to find a company whose culture you'll be happy being a part of.

The job is a long haul that's very challenging. Some will stick with it because they love the work, and others will give up after a few years and head into the real world.
