Can I share my VPN connection via a hotspot on Android?
I just bought a second Android, and I'm on a work network. If I connect my phone to the network using hotspot it will not have access to the internet, so I want to know if there is a way I can get my second Android to share its internet through my first Android's hotspot? 3 Answers.
Well, as with any other network connection it depends on the particular carrier you're on. Some carriers block VPNs from appearing in the list of available connections, some allow it, some block it by default, and some don't care.
The good news is that the default Android settings do not prevent you from accessing a VPN even if your carrier does. To check what your carrier allows, see the following link: If your carrier supports it, you may be able to configure the sharing to be automatic. Google how to do this.
If you are on an Open WiFi AP, you may also be able to configure it as a VPN. See the following link: If you get a different answer than I gave you, post what you find and I'll edit my answer accordingly. Edit. Roku may be a different beast to other brands of Android devices, but the answer above applies to all Android devices. Your second question is harder. I am unsure if you can use it in the same manner as you would use a wired network. However, you can probably configure it to work like a Wi-Fi network. For example, set it to broadcast a SSID name that's different from the rest of the networks.
The Android Hotspot function uses the cellular data connection to do the job. You can use the cellular data connection only for the purpose of hotspotting, using a regular WiFi network is out of the question.
There are some special phones for business purposes that act like hotspots. A Samsung Note 2 maybe, for example. But I haven't tried these.
Thank you! For those who may be interested, I tried using this on Android 8, and I had no luck. My Hotspot was no longer listed, and the option to share it did not exist. It didn't work on my Nexus 6p either, which was also running 8.
How to share VPN connection from Android?
Have you ever been lost in the middle of nowhere without Wi-Fi? Or just want to keep your browsing private from strangers? Wouldn't it be great if you could use your Android device to make an internet connection using your home VPN connection? What is VPN? VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, and it works by encrypting the data you send and receive, making sure that it cannot be read or hacked by anyone. By connecting your phone to the Internet through a VPN connection, it can provide a secure tunnel between you and the Internet. If your device is behind a firewall or a router that does not allow for VPN connections, this feature enables you to make a secure connection.
Using VPN connection on Android. Connecting to a VPN requires you to have a service provider account. Google Play allows you to create an account, but in order to activate it, you need to have an Android device connected to your router via an Ethernet cable or a USB cable. The reason for this is that the VPN connection must be activated from your computer, and it cannot be enabled on your phone.
After activating your VPN connection, you need to provide Google with information about your VPN account, such as your username, password, and email address. After you finish providing the necessary information, you will be able to connect to the VPN network. You will then be able to connect to any server available, regardless of the location from which you are connecting. When you disconnect from the VPN, your device will ask you for a new login.
OpenVPN app for VPN connection. OpenVPN is the most commonly used VPN software for Android devices. It is very easy to configure and there are many options for configuration settings. OpenVPN can be installed on your Android device by downloading it on the Google Play store, although you can also download the APK file from the developer's website.
Configuring OpenVPN for VPN connection. After installing the OpenVPN app, go to the Settings app, open OpenVPN, and select the Connect option. You will now need to provide your login credentials.
A pop-up window will appear where you can enter your login credentials. If you have an account with the VPN provider, you will need to enter the details of your user name and password. Otherwise, you will need to enter your email address and a username and password.

User Details are only visible to members. As a mobile user, the best way to connect is to set up the VPN through your phone. If you want to use a PC then there are other options. Look into using software that lets you use a VPN on the PC or using a USB VPN adapter that can be used to connect to a PC.
If your phone doesn't support VPN there is another option called Hotspot Shield which works well on most phones. I had the same problem with setting up a VPN connection on the PC side. I'm using the latest version of TP-Link DIR-655 V2. But when I tried to connect to it via a VPN, it said "You have to enable your network settings to use this device". I googled it and found out that I need to turn on the VPN in the mobile device settings. So I go to settings> privacy and security> VPN> click on the VPN tab and the click on the "turn on" button.
Can you share VPN to PC?
Hi, I am interested in setting up VPN. Is it possible to use VPN to connect two or more PCs together? I have heard of something called a "router" but don't understand the concept. Could someone explain the concept in terms of a simple network topology.
Thanks Sure, VPN on a 'PC' (actually, just a computer) is easy, VPN on a 'Router' is also easy and VPN over the Internet can be complicated, expensive and not really all that secure. I'm sure your ISP can give you a private encrypted tunnel to your VPN server but if you're planning on having multiple 'pc's' connect to the VPN server you will need to create a connection somewhere. I haven't done this recently (I've been moving around a lot) but I think the connection would be over IP (you'd need an IP address for the other computers). What VPN client do you use? I use OpenVPN and it works great. It's simple to setup (I set mine up via ), free, and easy to use. I can't recommend it enough. Also, what operating systems are you running?
What VPN client do you use? It's simple to setup (I set mine up via ), free, and easy to use. Hi, thanks for your comments. I am using Windows 7, but I do not know which version of OpenVPN that I should get. Does it matter? How should I set up the connection? It's simple to setup (I set mine up via ), free, and easy to use.
Can I share my VPN connection?
I use Linux and I have a VPN connection set up on my computer. I have been using it and it has been working great for a few weeks now. I am also connected to several servers (mostly BitTorrent) using my VPN connection. However, recently I have had a few issues where my VPN connection would randomly stop working, or when it did work, it would randomly slow down so that I couldn't connect to any of the servers I usually use.
I've called my ISP to ask them about it, and they said I should try to use a different VPN client. However, I don't have any other clients, because I just use the open-source client that came with my router. The problem is that the VPN connection is so important to me, I don't really want to switch to another client.
Can I still share my VPN connection? Can I access my VPN from my Android device (I have an Android phone)? If so, can I still use it as a server to access BitTorrent, or do I need to find another VPN client for Android? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Thanks for your reply! I have tried using other clients, but to no avail. The problem seems to be coming from the VPN provider's server (for whatever reason), and nothing I try can fix it.
For what it's worth, I have found a way to fix it. The problem seemed to come from my ISP changing their DNS settings. I have changed my DNS settings back to what they were before the problem started, and my VPN connection seems to be working fine again. I have not yet tested if it is connecting properly to the servers I usually use. But hopefully that is good enough for now!
I do use a VPN on my computer, but I'm sure there are other ways to solve the problem without using a VPN. Thanks again for your help! Hi, I'm a new member here but have been lurking for a while. I'm looking to connect to my home network remotely. What I'm wondering is what you need to do to get this set up. Is it just a matter of creating a user account, logging in, and then sharing the appropriate folders? I'm assuming the account needs to have rights to do this but I'm not sure how to set this up.
Are there any other ways to share my VPN connection?
As far as I know, VPN connections are typically treated as separate network connections. If you have several applications that need access to the network, you might be able to set up one network connection for all of them. This may be possible with some application-specific routers. If you're using Windows, you might want to check out this article.
You can use NAT as an easy way to accomplish this, but if you need something a bit more robust, you can use iptables. #!
