Selenium provides an easy to use and powerful framework used for practicing test automation. The reason that it is so successful is two fold. First, its easy to learn. It takes less than one week to learn all the basic concepts and techniques. Second, there is plenty of practice tests available online.

In this article we will discuss resources for learning about the basics of Selenium, and practicing test automation with various developer tools. One of the most important concepts in testing a Web browser is that of a WebDriver. A WebDriver is a driver which can be installed and configured to communicate with a web-browser and run functions against it.

What's that? WebDriver: A Selenium Driver. A driver is similar to the JFrame of the Java world. It allows us to interact with various components inside a web-browser. A Selenium driver usually uses the WebDriver Protocol to interact with the web-browser. This protocol comes with some benefits. These are

The test files are readable by everyone. The code can be cleaned up easier. The driver provides a standard interface with higher level functions such as dealing with cookies, pop-ups, buttons etc. An example driver would look like this. Example Driver. Highlighted Instructions: Extract the SeleniumServer.jar from the archive.

Run the SeleniumServer.bat file.

Start the IDE. Open the Projects page from the IDE. Open the Eclipse Project folder. Right click, select import, and import the SeleniumServer. It should import without errors. Open the Driver page and locate the Selenium server. You should have a window like following. Now it is time to add the drivers. Copy the drivers.

Is Selenium easy to learn?

I am a fairly new web developer. I know some HTML and a little CSS, I also have some experience in PHP and SQL. I am thinking of learning Selenium WebDriver and PHPUnit. I think I will eventually move into Selenium testing. I have heard that there is a steep learning curve. Is it really so difficult to use?
Would anyone willing to share their experiences of using Selenium? It is okay if its a Windows only thing! I am a Linux kind of guy. Thanks so much! Selenium WebDriver is a library for automating browser interactions. You have to learn how to handle browser (mostly) which involves JavaScript, CSS and HTML. So yes, it can be tough to grasp and it may take time consuming if you are not fammiliar with these techniques!
On the bright side, once you grasp it, you can apply these techniques to other technologies like PHPUnit.

How can I learn Selenium testing?

After scouring the web I have found this website that teaches you how to get into Selenium and I think it is a very helpful and educational website. I have found xampp no longer to update and there is no attempt to give directions as to how to update xampp to the new versions. I have unzipped the latest version of xampp to an mapped drive on my desktop. I have tried to navigate to the tesev2 directory that opens but none of the sub directories open.

I am already a seasoned user of XP so PHP, Perl, Javascript, CSS, Jquery HTML5, XHTML, MYSQL and using the W3C HTML inspector. I have DLed the latest version of XAMPP. I have downloaded the NH Elements Installer and extracted the NH elements exe file. I have added the path to the NH elements and the NH elements file. I am now at the testing IDE Setup screen. How do I add/install Selenium and how do I browse the web to test my Web Pages? How do I start with Selenium in my XP environment? I realize I am asking for a lot in a short time. I am a learner of all of these because my computer guru handed me the laptop and says hurry up and learn something. But the thing is I am starting to understand.

I am a Honors Liberal Arts and Religious Studies student at The University of North Texas. It is not part of the degree stating but I came to UNT thinking I would specialize in Biblical Studies as my major. However that now seems unrealistic. Apparently almost no one here is as I was in love with the details of religious studies.

What I want to do is move up the ladder doing Computer Science and Philosophy and Religious studies. What I see now is they cover the same ground mostly, so the local community college seems the best place to go after my first two years at university and increase my knowledge of religious studies.

My finals are next week, then I will transfer back to High School and finish my international education and I will travel the world. That's why I came to UNT, I am offering myself to be a personal tutor of someone who has a computer science degree and is interested in philosophical questions.
