Is it possible to work from home with Amazon?
I have never worked from home before and am currently self-employed, but I was wondering if working from home with Amazon or a home-based Amazon fulfillment center is possible? And where do you start when trying to get started as an independent contractor? I do have a strong background in computer software engineering, web design, and have some experience with Java and Android app development. I am mostly curious about how the workflows work (who's on top, who pays for the equipment used, etc) because there have been several other home-based Amazon businesses in the past that didn't seem to have worked out too well in my opinion, so I am very much cautious about starting something up again. I am just wondering if someone in my situation can actually go through with it.
Amazon also has many small scale business opportunities. As an example Amazon runs a service which will allow you to rent a refrigerator to keep your food cold, they supply the space and a fridge at a hourly rate.
There are many other things that Amazon have already developed into small scale business but they are not as easy to see. If you had a friend who owns an Amazon FBA warehouse then you could probably talk to them for the names of all the people you need to talk to get started. If you have no real experience of managing a warehouse or any other home based operation then I would try and contact your local council. They have requirements of people who open home businesses to make sure the public are protected. If you do manage to get through these hurdles then I guess you just have to take the plunge and see what happens.
This may not be a possibility for everybody, but I would seriously consider a franchise. You buy the infrastructure and you do not have to worry about things like inventory.
Thanks so much for the replies! I appreciate it and I think that my business idea is really exciting to me, but I feel that Amazon FBA is too risky of an idea. Especially given the fact that so many competitors have sprung up in the last few years. But I think I may give a go at it with a franchise. After all, I have some previous experience in running a logistics business, so it can't be that difficult! Plus, I do intend to set up a warehouse one day. I would just like to find the time now and use that as a proof of concept to show potential investors and clients.
