Is there a totally free ad blocker?

How do I block ads on my browser?

Ads are ads are there to make money for websites, not to be nice.

A lot of people want to remove them or block them from their browser, but it's not always easy to do.

Here are the options for blocking ads in your browser, in the order of which are likely to work best: Block ads using adblockers. You can use an adblocker, such as Adblock Plus, uBlock Origin, and uMatrix. There are different adblockers and blocking tools, some of which have more features and functionality than others, but all will allow you to block ads.

This is probably the simplest way to block ads, but you'll have to keep it up-to-date with the latest version of your adblocker. It won't block all ads, but it will block most of them.

You can install a free adblocker on your browser from these links: Chrome: Block ads on Google Chrome using Adblock Plus. To install this extension: Go to Chrome Web Store. Search for "Adblock Plus". Click the first result. Click the "Add to Chrome" button. Follow the instructions to install the extension. Firefox: Block ads on Firefox using Adblock Plus. Go to addons.mozilla.org.

Click the "Add to Firefox" button. Safari: Block ads on Safari using Adblock Plus. Go to the App Store. Click the "Free App" button. Block ads with extensions. You can use extensions to block ads. This is the easiest and probably the most effective way to block ads.

Most ad blockers and ad blocker extensions also block trackers, which are also ads. These will also work to block ads.

While using an extension, you should keep it up-to-date by updating it every time you update your browser.

Does Chrome still allow AdBlock?

Chrome was once a browser which allowed adblockers.

Then it went to be a privacy-hostile monstrosity, but in 2024 it's come back with new support for adblock.

Is the default page in 2024 Chrome still safe for adblockers? The new version of Chromium includes the new AdBlockPlus plugin which will let you filter out ads on most sites: just search for adblock and turn it on. It also seems to block some trackers that we use - at least according to It's worth remembering that Chrome, by default, is far from safe for adblockers anymore - so if you do want to use Chrome on Android you may want to disable your adblocker. Adblock Plus will work but not all ads can be blocked. Adblock Plus works reasonably well (not perfectly, but well enough) on web pages like this one but if we click on the ad or look at the source code we can see that there's another ad underneath it (sometimes a background image instead of an ad banner). These hidden ads can be difficult to block on some sites.

Adblock Plus is not a 100% reliable or perfect solution. One of the features Adblock Plus has over other add blockers is its 'non-intrusive' behaviour. Unlike most other add blockers, Adblock Plus lets you filter out ads with CSS. As such, it works by blocking what's being displayed rather than the request for content (and so works less effectively for dynamic content). The following page shows what this looks like:

Here's the source code for the main ad in this page (the ads are from Google and Facebook):
