How to track a phone number for free on Google Maps?
One of the biggest disadvantages of using Android is that it is a phone, so you cannot track your lost or stolen phone.
Google doesn't offer an official Android Tracking app which can help you to track your Android phone remotely. There are plenty of third-party apps available on the Google Play Store which claim to provide a solution for this problem.
However, most of these apps show ads in the app's interface, and they charge you for providing this information to them. A better alternative is to use a reliable free method for tracking Android devices. Google has developed several features which make it easy for users to track their device. However, most of these features require an Internet connection and the use of an Android device with location services activated. But there is a solution to all this problems - you can use the Google Maps app and its web interface to track your lost or stolen Android device without the need to install an external application.
Using Google Maps to track an Android phone. Tracking your Android phone. Download the Google Maps app from the Google Play Store. Open the app and select the last location shown in the drop-down menu. Find the nearest available WiFi hotspot and tap the Find Now button in the top-right corner. When the Google Maps website loads, you will be presented with a map of your current location, along with the list of any available WiFi networks. Select the one that seems closest to you and tap the Start Tracking button.
If the selected WiFi network is far away from your location, a prompt will appear asking you whether you want to wait for the device or cancel the current operation. If you decide to cancel the operation, Google will not be able to continue the tracking process. To allow Google to continue, tap Continue Tracking.
Tap the search button at the bottom-left corner of the Google Maps page. Type the name of the missing device, and tap the Search button.
Google will display a list of results with the names of devices having the same exact serial number as the one you type in the search box. The device's phone number can also be found in the list. Tap the phone number if it appears in the list.
Is there a completely free cell phone location tracking?
Can someone do it?
I'm wanting to learn a little more about cell phone tracking for security. I want to understand whether you can track free without a contract.
I understand that you can use GPS and wifi triangulation to make an approximation of where you are, but if someone is nearby, can they do the same? It seems as though it should be possible. Can someone explain how this is done.
I have been trying to find this out myself. You can do this with WiFi and GPS. If you are within a short distance of any tower and you know what the IP address of that tower is, you can get a rough location. For example, here is my last few searches on where my iPhone would have been at various times:
You can also get a location based on the WiFi signal strength (this doesn't work well from inside buildings). But a lot of people are worried about government access. And they shouldn't be. People have been doing cell phone location tracking for years.
So, there is a lot of money in selling data about people's movements. There is a lot of money in keeping people safe. That's what law enforcement does, that's what companies need to make money for. So, there are no real incentives for governments or corporations to spy on us unless we are causing them trouble.
This makes sense to me. If we are in trouble, the police will find us quickly. That's why we use public space. We can't expect the police to protect us or our private property. So, if someone is in trouble that might mean they don't want to be found anymore, then it will start becoming an issue. But, in the general, tracking locations is not an issue.
As with anything else, there are dangers. It's just that if people are going to be tracking you, we shouldn't worry about them tracking you unless we are wrong and those risks need to be known.
How do I find someone's location on Google Maps for free?
I'm sure the answer to this is pretty obvious.
And it is, to me and I do hope for others. Just type in their name and press search for directions on a smart phone. The site gives you the option of showing them on a map; in addition if you hover over someone's location you get their address. So easy. No subscription or paying by credit card needed!
The answer comes from what appears to be a new "open source project". I say project because if you ask the question to google (or any number of search engines on the net), the answers show little more than vague references to a company I would never find even with a paid account. Now with Google's new service called Google Now people are being targeted by their phones with things like a GPS, which you can also use to find your friends, when they do something. It is interesting the ability to go online to find a friend, is becoming the new, the person" tool of the world.
What I saw today at Google I/O is an incredible presentation demonstrating Google's vision of a future with your phone knowing your location and using your phone to find the best place to meet based on where your friends are so that you all don't end up in the same place! Or the place where you go on holiday, or you go when you want to show off what you have in your car! In other words, this is the vision of what we will see in the future as mobile devices become pervasive. They already dominate the market today. So why not give us the means to use that to our advantage instead of taking out more expensive plans, and paying for what the phone knows we will need! I suspect that even now most of use Google's free location service in our regular phone calls when we can't figure out how to spell something, it locates where we live, or we want to call a friend who knows where we are going to say.
The idea of the presentation was amazing. In a sense it was a cross between "Star Trek" and "Her". If you have seen either you get the point of the next line. Let me give you a bit of background. The "Star Trek" series was set out to imagine the world a century into the future in the 1960's.
