Does Amazon Prime Video have kids shows?

The question was asked by one of my readers, and I decided to dig into the content available on Amazon Prime Video for Kids. I've already reviewed Amazon's Kindle Unlimited content, but this is not a review of that product. Instead, this review looks at what kids content there is on Amazon Prime Video.

So, how many kids movies are available? Are there any kid shows? Do they have any animated series? How about original kids shows? Let's find out. Amazon's Kids Content. The first thing you notice when browsing the Amazon Prime Video Kids section is that it isn't actually called Kids. Instead, it's called Kids & Family.

Once you get past the misleading name, the section offers a number of video selections. Here's a screenshot: When I checked the details for each video, I noticed that the movies offered were mostly recent ones. Even when I clicked on the watch now link, I got recent movies. This was confirmed when I searched for some other older titles.

Amazon has one thing for everyone in the family - kids movies, kids shows, kids TV, kids games and kids apps. In fact, most of the options are available for every age group.

So, which category should you choose? There are only three options available: Movies, Shows and Apps. Amazon Prime Video offers more than 40 kids movies for kids. These include classics like Toy Story 3, Shrek Forever After, and Monsters, Inc.

When I checked the details for each movie, I noticed that the movies offered were mostly recent ones. Amazon also offers a few non-recent movies like Annie and Aladdin. So, you can get a good mix of recent and non-recent movies.

Here's a screenshot of the Amazon Kids Shows section: There are no more than a dozen kids shows on Amazon Prime Video.

What age is Amazon Prime kids for?

Can I start it with my kid even if she's not a member of Amazon Prime?

I love that you can get unlimited access to tens of thousands of streaming kids shows and movies. I love that you can start your 30 day free trial and you don't need a credit card. So many of the streaming apps that have a free trial are paywalled.

So I just did that this morning. I started watching Sesame Street and I was happy about that (as if she could understand any of it.) We finished the show, turned the app off, and started reading a book.

Then I started Googling. How can I make sure Sesame Street doesn't automatically download on my daughter's phone and start broadcasting in the background? How do I find the apps that only allow one to sign in once and then never come up again? We want to be a responsible parent. We would like to get our hands on all kinds of games, books, documentaries, etc. But I worry that our time on the phone will be limited by her constant presence for a small amount of our total screen time. How do you make sure that kids are not having constant access to Amazon Prime or other services without you knowing it? How do you manage your kids' screen time when the family is always on-the-go? How do you avoid being stuck on a game for hours at a time on your phone while it drains your battery or while your kids go on and off?

How can I find something that fits what we're interested in? Like games or movies that we are actually interested in, how do we know if they are going to be good? There's so many great gaming communities that are dedicated to finding out what's new or good. But I can't really be involved in those communities. This all feels like I'm constantly behind, trying to catch up and trying to stay on top of this whole world.

As a parent, I'm just now getting to a point where I'm starting to put rules in place for what goes on during the week. My toddler will turn two next week.

Is Prime video good for kids?

If you are not one of the many parents who love movies and shows available on Prime Video, the answer to this question is a big NO. In fact, it may be quite the opposite for many of you. But I am going to give you my honest opinion here. Just because a show or movie is available on Prime Video doesn't necessarily mean it is suitable for your children. In fact, the opposite may be true as well. So let's look at some of the pros and cons of Prime Video.

The Pros. Frequent discounts: One of the best reasons to use Prime Video is the ability to access its shows and movies at half price. As well as access to the shows at half price, many of its kids shows will be available to watch for free with no ads. There are also discounts for other Prime members and offers like Watch Free to watch some of its movies and shows.

Accessibility: With many of the videos streaming in HD on the new Fire TV Stick, it is easy to access videos quickly. You can also add the videos you want to the list on the Fire TV. Plus, you can quickly switch between playing on TV and on your connected Fire TV.

Quality: The video quality is great as well. It is usually in high quality when I am able to access it. I've yet to find a time where the quality has not been top notch.

The Cons. Lack of parental controls: Now this is definitely a con for Prime Video. They are not very good at giving you the ability to control what your children are watching. You cannot limit their time viewing content or stop them from accessing specific content. Most of the shows and movies are simply marked as appropriate for age or suitable for all. That means they don't have any restrictions on it.

Many of the prime video shows and movies do not have any kind of rating system or warning that something might not be suitable for children. There is also nothing in the description that tells you the content is for children or that it contains violent scenes.

Parental controls: There are times when you will be unable to control your children when they are viewing videos on the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. This is one of the biggest con for Prime Video.
