How do I save coordinates from Google Maps to my iPhone?

How do I get accurate GPS coordinates on my iPhone?

This question popped into my head while I was sitting at the beach waiting for the waves to get high enough to jump in.

I had a pretty good signal, so I figured that if I could get an accurate GPS location from the iPhone, I'd be able to figure out where I was.

I thought this would be easy, but it turns out that the iPhone GPS chip is very finicky about how you get the coordinates. As I was trying to figure out the best way to use the iPhone's GPS, I came across a lot of conflicting information. Some people claim that you can get an accurate location by jiggling the phone around, others say that you should hold it flat on a table. Others still say that holding the phone in your hand is the best way.

So I decided to conduct a little experiment. I took the iPhone (running iOS 3.1.3), plugged it into my laptop, and created a small program to run the iPhone's location services for me. I then sat down at the beach and watched the iPhone in my hand and waited. At first, the iPhone was jiggling around and returning a location that was wildly inaccurate. Then, it seemed to settle down, and the accuracy was reasonable (it was about 10 feet off).

So, if you're getting an inaccurate location, there's no way that you're going to be able to accurately determine your position on the map. What you might be able to do is take a photo of the GPS coordinates and then use Google Earth to figure out where you are.

How do you turn on the iPhone's GPS? To turn on the iPhone's GPS, press and hold the Power/Sleep button for a few seconds until you see the Apple logo. When you see the Apple logo, press and hold the Home button to turn off the iPhone. Now, power the iPhone back on, and wait for the Apple logo to show up again.

How do I convert GPS coordinates to Google Maps?

I'm working on a project where I need to figure out how to convert GPS coordinates into Google Maps coordinates.

Since the information is private, I can't publish the latitude/longitude without someone being able to access my data. I'm currently using google-maps-geocode-v3, but it just uses the Google API. The problem is that I would like to be able to add more countries/cities and I'm not sure what the API key would be for every country I'd want to add.

Any ideas? What happens when you run this code? I had to manually create an API key to get this to work. That's kind of a bummer since you didn't specify any key in your code. I used my own key generated with the API explorer. Maybe if you add the key in the example code, it will work for you.
