Is there an extension for Google Keep?

Can I install Google Keep on PC?

The Google Keep app is a good way to capture ideas and notes using the phone.

But I have been looking at the Android tablet with pen support and wondered if there was an app similar to Google Keep that might work on a tablet. If so, how does one do it?

It's possible, but keep in mind that Android is not Linux. Even though the base operating system is the same, you don't get certain things that you do in Linux. For example, if you're trying to use Gedit, keep in mind that it doesn't have root access.

Google Keep (and all other Google Apps) can be installed on Windows and OS X as well. Next, you'll need to download and install the Google Drive app. In my case, I had to download and install two things: 1) the Google Drive app (to open Keep files), and 2) the Keep app (to manage Keep files). I would also recommend opening Keep using the web browser, rather than the tablet app. Once there, you can upload a file from any computer.

It is true that the Windows version of Keep is not available yet, but you can still download the beta for Windows and install it yourself.

Is Google discontinuing Google Keep?

A question I received on Quora after the announcement of Keep.

I've been using Google Keep as an alternative to Evernote. It's better because it is free (in a sense) and it is also one of the few Google apps I've never had issues with.

As per the new announcement, Google will stop supporting Keep on June 30th, 2025. This is a bit of a surprise considering that Keep had been in beta for a long time. Google will replace it with the brand new Takeout app which, according to Google, will be focused on creating a better Google Keep experience for users.

Keep won't be available from the Play Store any longer. If you've been using it, you'll have to do a manual process to migrate your data to Takeout. However, there will be support for the data to be transferred to the next version of Takeout and Keep will work just fine after the migration is done.

Google didn't provide any details regarding when this will happen. In fact, they are not even giving specific info about their own Keep. That was surprising since they released a blog post about it. They only revealed that they'll no longer include the Google Keep app in future versions of Android and that they will support Keep with a feature called 'Keep' until it is retired in August 2025. The rest was basically an it's complicated statement.

One of the main reasons Google chose to announce this now was because they've heard people asking if this means that Google might be discontinuing Gmail. Google Keep is a Google service (it is part of the suite of Google services offered by the company) and it seems that this announcement may have been made to keep people from asking them to stop offering Gmail. Even if Keep is only replaced by a better version of it, Google might be able to keep Gmail alive somehow. However, this has not been confirmed and there's no solid evidence that this was the reason why Google announced it now. I'm still going to keep an eye out for the future.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: what does this mean for me? Does it mean that Google is killing Keep?

How do I show Google Keep in Chrome?

I installed Google Keep.

It shows up in the Google Apps list of apps, but when I start typing in a blank tab in Chrome, it doesn't show up in the list of apps. How do I get it to appear?

Google Keep appears in the Google Apps Directory under 'Drive', click on that and you should be able to access your notes. Google Keep is only available in Google Apps for Education, Business, or Government. If you don't have a Google Apps account, you can still use Keep by downloading the app directly from the Chrome Web Store. It's also available on Android as a free app.
