How does to_excel work?

How to convert Python to Excel?

For Example. I have several python lists as an excel template. The users will select a particular list they want to use and copy it to another Excel file. They will modify the data inside and copy it back to the excel template file. And then close the template file with python. The python files will also be closed, after which I use the macro for the file.

My code looks like: import sys #macros, macros that are available in XL, etc are here #and we use them import xlwt from pprint import pprint #The following macro uses system modules import xlrd def openWorkBook(strFilePath): print "Opening workbook. (Check you have your macros enabled in Macro settings on the File->Options menu. )

I think, using macro1 is required when you are using python to excel. Can anybody please help me figure out how to do this

I don't want to install Excel on the user's computer. They should only need to copy, paste and maybe edit some data.

Your answer would be of great help. Thanks.

Kiran S. Thanks. I did something similar for our office automation systems (I used python to write to excel and the macros were prewritten) and worked well. If your users have basic skill levels, then just ask them to double click on the Excel file you created and select copy. Hi Kiran. Thanks for the suggestion. The user needs to close the file after making modifications. But when they double click on the file which was created by themselves, Excel throws up the dialog asking to save or discard or cancel. And in our case, the users dont know how to handle this and thus get frustrated. They cannot open the saved file because the template file which had the macros are closed.

Can you write to Excel from Python?

Here's the answer

You are trying to work with Excel from Python and not getting anywhere.

This article will guide you through possible options to solve this issue.

Excel is a great tool for data analysis, it has a lot of features which are very helpful for users like you. However, when it comes to automation of your own Excel worksheets and macros or when trying to work with Excel from Python, there are some challenges to be solved. Here are some ways to get your Excel from Python done in the end.

Let's start with our Excel example. In this particular example, the user will go to the site, login, then he will be presented with a form, so he must enter his name and email. Based on the provided information, he will have an Excel sheet that has a list of users with the email address, as well as their last name and their date of birth, for instance.

Now let's see what we can do for this example in Python. Writing to Excel with Spreadsheety. If you remember, Spreadsheety is a library made for the people like you who want to create excel worksheets from scratch and not from templates. Spreadsheety is able to build and create an Excel file with a sheet containing the data you provide. Here's how your code should look:

Import spreadsheety #This is just the way to import the package from any file. Spreadsheet = spreadsheety . Open("excel.xlsx") #Here you must provide the file name with .xlsx format

Def createexcelsheet(data): #This is the function where we write data to an Excel sheet from the data provided. Spreadsheet . Worksheet . WriteData( "Sheet1", data) #WriteData is the method to write data to an Excel sheet

#Define the data you want to write to the Excel sheet. Data =. #Write data to Excel. Createexcelsheet(data) #Now the data has been written to the sheet. You need to create your first Excel file.
