Many people don't know that Windows doesn't have a built-in tool to perform a reverse DNS lookup. To work with IP addresses in windows you have to use the third party application like mfprn.

What is a Reverse DNS Lookup? The DNS lookup or reverse DNS lookup is used to find out the hostname associated with a given IP address. The main purpose of a reverse DNS lookup is to provide you the details of the host name of the computer from which a given IP address was retrieved. This way you can communicate with the user who owns the given IP address. When you try to visit an URL, which includes an IP address of a server, the browser makes a request to the DNS server. If the DNS server is configured, it returns the host name of the target server. The host name is associated with a public IP address and it is displayed by the browser.

Let's look at an example: Let's assume a user is accessing some web content from an IP address of www.stackoverflow. The DNS server receives the request and answers with the host name www. The DNS server returns the host name of the target website along with the public IP address.

How to reverse nslookup command?

I want to reverse the command of nslookup and then use it on my windows server.

I know that I can run this command nslookup from linux or ubuntu machine but I can't use it on windows server. Please help me.

You can try something like this: Start a DOS prompt (or Windows PowerShell). Run "net use x: 192.168.0.4"
Run "net use y: 192.4" Run "net use z: 192.4" Run "nslookup localhost". The problem is that the server has to be connected to the internet. So you will have to go to your router/modem and connect the server to the modem.

Or you can just have a static IP on your router.
