Can I put an age restriction on YouTube?
I am an older adult (age 62) and would like to watch videos that are not suitable for younger people. This is because of the violence, nudity, profanity, etc. I use YouTube as a reference library for my studies. But these videos are really boring and hard to understand for older people. So, I was wondering if it is possible to create a playlist that is just for adults. Thanks for your help.
This depends on where you live in the world, though it is illegal to restrict access to certain websites or even certain search terms for minors in some countries. I'm not sure that there is a way to set up a playlist that is "just for adults", but if you type "adult movies" into YouTube's search field, you'll get a selection of videos. These are all for adults, and not suitable for younger viewers.
Google offers a very popular service called Google Play. It has a feature called Parental Control which allows you to block inappropriate sites. You can add certain sites, such as Google, YouTube and others.
You can also add certain movie categories, like the one with violent movies. It would probably be pretty obvious what is in these categories, but you can add your own. In this case, you could add a movie category such as "violent movies". This would be a searchable category, so you could search for "violent movies" and you would get all violent movies, even if they are not rated R, PG-13, etc.
I have just been looking at the search features on YouTube and I think it may be possible to do this. When you search for a term on YouTube, the results that are returned are automatically sorted. If you type in "violent movies" you will see that they are sorted by Most Popular, Highest Rated, Lowest Rated, Highest Rated and Lowest Rated. The first two are all movies, the third is movies rated PG, the fourth are movies rated G, the fifth are movies rated PG-13, and the last are movies rated R.
If you click on the Movies tab, then Videos, then Sort, you will find an option to change the sorting order. The order is from Most Popular to Lowest Rated. You can then change the order to Highest Rated to Lowest Rated.
How can I restrict what my child watches on YouTube?
My three year old is obsessed with YouTube.
She can watch videos for hours on end and, like most toddlers, she spends more time looking at things on YouTube than she does playing with toys. I've tried putting a time limit on my phone's use while she's awake, which cuts down on her time spent on YouTube. But that only lasts until I have to go to bed.
I'm worried that my child is too easily addicted to YouTube. My concern is that she will become accustomed to having the service on, especially during her naps. And eventually, I'll be forced to do something about it.
Is there a way to stop my child from watching YouTube so much? My daughter can watch videos all day on YouTube. And I'm aware that by nature of it being a child's interest, she won't spend time on other activities. But there are some games that she likes, like Angry Birds. When she plays these games, I want to see her playing.
But if you just turn the TV off, what's to keep her from watching YouTube on my phone? I know that restricting children's screen time on a TV, PC or tablet is important. It was one of the reasons I chose to get rid of cable. I never wanted my kids to become the next Generation Z (a generation used to not spending time on TV). But I don't want to restrict my daughter's access to her phone.
I want to start educating her on how to properly balance time spent on different activities, but I'm also afraid that she might get addicted to YouTube. What do you think about this? Is there anything I'm missing here?
Can a child under 13 use YouTube?
The short answer is yes, a child under 13 can use YouTube.
However, if you do decide to allow your child to use YouTube, you must monitor them at all times. Always make sure that you know where your child is when they are on the website. If you suspect that your child is on the site unsupervised, you should immediately contact us.
If you decide that it is okay for your child to use YouTube, there are a few things that you must keep in mind. First, you need to be aware that if your child is not 13 years old and older, they may be able to view content on YouTube that is inappropriate for their age. For example, some content may be too violent for a child under 13. This may cause your child to feel uncomfortable or upset.
Second, you must be aware that your child can access YouTube videos with embedded links that take them to other websites that you do not want your child to visit. For example, YouTube may provide a link to a site that allows you to download files. You should always try to prevent your child from visiting other websites.
Third, your child must not be able to add anyone as a friend or to create an account. This is important because anyone who can create an account can see all of your child's activity on YouTube.
Fourth, your child must not be able to leave comments on any YouTube videos. If they do, you must delete themare often very intrusive and many people consider them to be spam.
Finally, if your child does not know how to use YouTube, you will need to provide them with specific instructions. For example, you might want to show them how to log in and how to comment on a video.
Are there other dangers of YouTube? If you allow your child to use YouTube, there are some dangers that you need to be aware of. First, your child can easily post videos to YouTube. If you think that your child has posted a video without your permission, you should immediately contact us.
