What is the benefit of camellia scent?

What are the side effects of camellia oil?

I hear that camellia oil is very effective for certain skin types, but I was wondering if there are any serious side effects?

This may be off topic, but can anyone tell me why the sunflower has 4 stamens whereas the sunflower does not have 4 pistils? Why do some flowers have so many different kinds of stamens and not 4 pistils? You're in luck! Some folks have had bad camellia oil experiences. Others (I know this sounds like double speak) have had excellent experiences. My experience was both, but as I was told to let it ride by my nurse at an acupuncture clinic, I just did. There is no harm in trying it on those rare occasions I find myself getting a cold sore.

I have read in other places that a camellia is not a true Camellia either, but rather a kind of a Camellia like Cucumber-tree. Also, from an Asian herb market's website, it says: Camellia sinensis/ C. Japonica, Camellia japonica/ C. Crenata, Camellia kiyoensis/ C. Kousa, etc. I think these are actually true Camellias (at least according to Herb and Garden), but they have stamens and pistils too. Are they also camellias like cucumber-tree? If so, then I would like to try them to see if they work for me. And where do I get them? Please help.

Thank you, Susan, for your comment. You are right that a true Camellia is a distinct species of plant.

It will depend on the variety that you are using. Some varieties look the same when cut and do indeed have 4 petals, while others look more like 3 or 5 petals and the stamen is inside the flower. There are many other common varieties that you might also be interested in. The Chinese name for true Camellias will be listed on the seed package label. When we refer to those, we are usually referring to the variety grown by most vendors and suppliers who sell garden plants. It will have a Chinese name that has been chosen.

What oil do Japanese use for hair?

I have a fairly sensitive hair type, but lately my hair has been so dry, weak and unmanageable.

I don't have a problem of excess oil - it's just that the hair isn't the "good" kind. (not a hair product - please! Thank you in advance.

It's not just an issue of your hair needing a boost, I've seen cases where people have to use oil on their legs as well. I don't know whether you're just suffering from dry scalp or what, but it's not unusual. The key point is having a balanced diet (to avoid any nutrient deficiencies) and drink enough water. I think that might be the common factor for everyone with this issue, as Japanese diet is based on drinking water, vegetables and rice, and that includes both breakfast and lunch. Personally, my hair usually gets more oily from the start of summer, which is when I usually have bad hair days.

Thanks for your reply. It really wasn't anything wrong, in fact my hair usually gets very oily right after I shave. My problem was probably getting the water from the air. Anyway, I went to Japan for 5 weeks recently and it's so different from back home. When I was there my hair had much less oil and problems were solved quickly. So, it seems to be more because of humidity than anything else. My guess, but, is that Japanese are used to drinking more water. Maybe it's that simple.

I think it might be about how much oil is applied on head; in the old days Japanese women applied quite a lot of oil on head, but today there are many ways to add good water absorbing ingredients to hair treatments/ shampoos, and therefore, less oil is needed for hair care. My sister-in-law is into Shinto(she's a geisha, her name is "Suzuko") and she uses all oil for hair, even before shampooing. I told her (this has been passed on through the generations) "just like a baby crying in the old days, it's better that crying than not crying".
