How do I reset my Wininet proxy?
One user complained to me yesterday about having to use a proxy server on the client for their Wininet applications.
I was trying to understand what they were complaining about since I had never seen this before. (I also didn't know what the "client-side" meant -- I thought it just meant what it says on the screen) The answer was in wininetctl -- the ProxyEnable command for Wininet allows you to turn off or on Wininet's auto-proxy functionality. To use it, just call wininetctl ProxyEnable 0x03 (or whatever the proxy port number is in the man page) and then it will ask if you want to enable the autoproxy for Wininet or not. The default for Wininet is a no. Then you save it by calling wininetctl ProxyEnable 0x01 again. Wininet will then remember your setting.
In case you don't know how Wininet works, here's a good place to look for information on this: www.winineteam.info/index.php?c=wininetwiki&page=WININETSTOPWININETSTOP
I have used both Wininet and Internet Explorer at the same time without any trouble in Windows 2024 and XP but not later in Win. I found you have a very limited "control plane" and not very much in the "data plane". You cannot open more than 4 connections per IP (or 4 different IPs) simultaneously.
However, I have had the occasional problem with my computer slowing down. I found the cause to be IE which was taking 100% cpu. After I used my control panel to turn off "automatic updates" (which I think are disabled by default), my CPU would decrease to a reasonable amount of 50% for a little while and then it would run 100% and never go down even though I had turned off automatic updates on my computer.
To combat the high CPU usage, I turned off the feature of "automatic detection of proxy servers". I noticed there was a performance gain when it was turned off so now the system can run as it normally runs (the CPU decreases to an amount appropriate for a normal system) and I can even go to the web pages that require a proxy server without any "blinking" or skipping.
However, IE has gotten worse and worse.

==========================================================. ## 1. Introduction If you have a proxy server, please use your Internet Explorer (version 11) which is the built-in browser for Windows OS. IE can directly detect the proxy settings in Windows Internet Settings and it works well. But you can't use a proxy if your computer doesn't support it.
In this document, we will discuss how to use a proxy server in the netsh command interface, a built-in command-line utility to handle configuration issues of Windows OS./setproxyfor7./setproxyfor81.md)
