Is Avast antivirus 100% free?
I'm new to the forum and want to get some advice.
I used to use Avast 4 times a month and the price was not too much. But since the new update of Avast was released, the price is really high and I cannot afford to pay it monthly. So I got the free version of Avast and I found that it works pretty well.
But I have a question about the malware or virus protection. Is it 100% free? I mean is there any threat at all? Does it actually work to protect my PC? Re: ? Originally Posted by p0de. Yes. If you want more antivirus protection, it's better to buy a license that gives you the same protection on all your devices at once. You will get the same level of protection for each device with that license.
For a while now I've been using Avira. (Actually, it's been Avira FreeAntivirus for Windows, but I think the latest version is named "Avira Free Antivirus" as well.) It's really great. I've had to go through a few updates, but they always include some features I need. The newest version is also pretty good, and has an option to install as a system-wide scan and not just for apps.
I'm also pretty happy with it. There is an ongoing discussion about Avira AntiVirus, however, and it seems that it's not free. I don't know if that's true, or if it's only for non-US users. But I recommend it anyway.
Is Avast no longer free?
No.
For many people Avast for Windows is no longer free. From now you will only be able to use the software on a pay-per-use basis. On top of this, there will also be no more customer support.
For a while now we have had to charge for this type of service, which was not popular among our users and many users also complained about it. However, with so many people making use of it we decided to provide a solution to this problem, so for a short period we offered the Avast Security software for free for everyone who wanted it, but at the same time we had some limitations (which are no longer applicable) and we did not make any promises to the users regarding support.
Avast for Windows and Avast Premium for Mac both include antivirus protection, malware scanning, network security, and many other solutions. Avast has an interesting and innovative technology called Smart Scanning and is one of the most recommended security applications.
But at the same time our products were a hit among the users, because they often worked perfectly, or sometimes they were even superior to other comparable products. Avast Premium for Mac was praised on a number of platforms as great protection. The best security program for Mac. Reviewed in MacWorld magazine for 2024.
As of now the decision to stop making Avast free is one we regret, but because we believe we still need to pay for some of our costs, we will continue with the paid options. All our users will be able to install the software free of charge for the moment, but only from April to July.
Why Avast will no longer make Avast software available for free? We understand that users want everything to be free. However, the truth is that Avast for Windows makes around 50,000 a year, whereas we need to pay for personnel, IT, etc., just to keep the company afloat.
That's why Avast for Windows only works perfectly for 5% of its users; the rest have either complaints or difficulties with it. Avast for Windows also needs a lot of manpower and is quite a complicated product to build (to put it lightly). Also, not all computers support Mac applications; we have to create apps for Windows, Android, iOS, Mac, and Linux, so we need a lot of manpower to do this.
Is Avast a Russian company?
So how do they know that the software is Russian?
I don't know. Are they checking their license, or using open source to determine whether it's a copy of Avast, or something else? What about all of the other security software companies (including Microsoft, Symantec, AVG, Kaspersky, McAfee, etc)? Are you trying to get your head around all of this? Don't worry about it. The bottom line is that if you buy some antivirus software, there's no way for them to know if it's Russian-made.
So, who cares? What difference does it make? Do you still get an excellent product at a reasonable price? The answer is yes. If you are using an Antivirus Software product from one of the above mentioned companies, there is no way that they can know that it is Russian made. If they can tell if it's a copy of Avast - that's a big deal because it allows them to have some influence over where the virus was made and what it is doing. Avast, Inc. Is A Non-Profit Organization In Florida, USA Let's talk about why Avast, Inc. Is a non-profit organization. As I said above, they don't really care about where the software is made, only that the customer gets a good product for a reasonable price.
If the security software company had a contract with the country that made the software and that country had been involved in hacking, cyber war, espionage, etc., then it's probably better to keep the relationship and their knowledge to themselves. Provides the following explanation:

It is important to mention that the non-profit and independent statements are not meant to suggest that our company is publicly traded. We are a private company that focuses on the business of selling products and services to protect people.
We have no plans to sell any products. We provide great products that you can use safely. Our products are tested to protect you.
What are the disadvantages of Avast Free Antivirus?
Avast Free Antivirus is a free antivirus, the disadvantages of using a free antivirus is it does not contain advanced anti-exploit functions, in other words, Avast is not the top notch antivirus with great anti-exploit features but if you need antivirus for basic security you can consider it. You can get additional Anti-Ransomware function when you use Avast for the purpose of protecting important information such as e-mails and documents stored in a Windows file system. The price and performance of Avast are better than AVG or Panda (in my experience), but not as good as Norton, Malwarebytes, or Microsoft Security Essentials.
Why is it a pro compared to commercial antivirus software? Avast Free Antivirus Free version works very well for basic everyday protection, the only con which I really dislike is it still lacks some functions that the better Avast does have, that is why Avast is Pro. How does Avast compare to other free and commercial antivirus products? Avast is by far the best in all free programs. What are the key benefits of installing it on Windows 8/8.1/10? You will not be able to uninstall from the start screen, you can do so easily in Safe Mode. There are some disadvantages in Safe Mode, that is why you don't want to use the safe mode all the time.
Does Avast automatically scan for malware when I turn on my computer? It scans if you launch it at the very first startup. When you open windows, documents or files there is no need to scan them one by one. But be careful it will not make you miss threats which are stored in other documents and files that you don't regularly access. But if you are going to access certain documents regularly, it will find out automatically on startup and warn you to scan the other files which will store your data like e-mails or chat logs.
Is Avast easy to install? Yes if you are a newbie, I know it is scary how many buttons they have with many language options but I know how to switch language easily by clicking and selecting. However, it may sometimes ask for the administrator password when it needs to fix something and it takes long to fix and restart the computer and it may need to connect to internet to download updates.
