How do I reset network settings on iPhone 8 AT&T?
&T (16GB model)
How to set up your iPhone so it is completely wireless, not connected to any network. There are times when you might lose connectivity to a network. For example, when you're in a foreign country, and you connect to a new network. Or maybe you don't have enough signal in your current location, and you move to a new one. That's when it's helpful to have the option to reset your iPhone settings back to what you last had.
The following procedure will show you how to reset network settings on an iPhone 8 using the latest iOS (iOS 12). This will reset network settings back to the network status as if you bought the iPhone, plugged it in and turned it on for the first time. It will show you which network provider your iPhone is using right now. This way, if you lose connectivity to that network later, you can just restart your phone, and it'll be like nothing has happened.
Note that some of the options on this page might not apply if your iPhone is set to use your cellular data plan instead of WiFi.e. The following procedure will still work, but the network settings might be limited to the Wi-Fi options.

What will resetting iPhone network settings do?
IPhones (and iPads) have this feature that allows you to set your network settings. However if you reset the network settings on your iPhone, what will be the consequences? Will it affect your mobile data? Is there any way to recover your data if something goes wrong? Let's find out.
What are the network settings? Network settings can be accessed by opening Settings > Cellular > Reset (see screenshot below). It is basically a button which allows you to erase your cellular settings including your mobile data amount and the wireless network you are connected to.
If you are going to use this feature, we advise you to save your data such as personal emails, photos, contacts, or call logs on the cloud instead of on your iPhone. This is because resetting your network settings will delete all your data. You can only recover your data if you back up your iPhone using iCloud or other applications such as iTunes. We will cover more about backup in the next section.
If your iPhone data cannot be recovered, you may be able to restore it from iCloud backups stored on iCloud.com (see image below). It's just like a backup for your data, so you have to make sure you have a backup from iCloud, otherwise you might lose all your data. If you do not have a backup from iCloud, you can still use the alternative backup option in iTunes. To restore your data, you just need to connect your iPhone to the computer using the USB cable, and then press the button Restore (see image below). Make sure you click the Select button after restoring and clicking the Restore Now button. Your data will then be restored.
For more information on this feature, you can refer to our guide on how to backup iPhone data. How do you reset your iPhone network settings? To reset your iPhone network settings, you need to access the following page on your iPhone: Connect your iPhone to the computer using the USB cable. After your iPhone has connected, you will see a message Backup is being done as you can see in the image below. This is a normal operation, and the time it takes will depend on how much data there is to back up.
Next, click the Restore button as shown in the image below.
How do I manually select a network on my iPhone 8?
It's really not an option since I have 3g on the other phone, but how can I change this without changing carriers or sim card. So basically there is no way I am going to be able to pay off the remaining charge without getting a new contract.
And now because it won't get updated, its been deactivated for 4 years with AT&T/Cricket/T-mobile and I cannot find anyone to talk to about having it reactivated. I don't want to continue with 3g and just try and find an LTE network. There will be no LTE in the area for me.
Does anyone know any other way to do this? I know you can use one of the many 3g only type sim cards, but is there a way to find the correct one? I do not want to switch phone companies unless there is no other choice. Can anyone help me out please? This phone is nearly 4 years old and it is unusable with no 3g data connection. I just went through the whole process of upgrading from the 3G iPhone 4s I got for free with service. That's what I'll be doing with your phone as well - just don't expect me to write the same lengthy post that I did for you. I've already written it. (see below)
Thanks for the reply and I also appreciate you taking the time. To add I cannot use AT&T without signing a new contract so I am hoping to set this up using Cricket and their 3g network. Do you know if that sim will work with the iPhone 8?
What you are doing is wrong. If you are on pre-paid service it is a violation of contract for you to change carrier. However, I can understand where you are coming from if you are paying for the phone on contract.
Do not pay attention to the 3G bars. They are always showing wrong when you have true coverage and you should see full bars.
How do I reset my iPhone cellular network?
As of iOS 12 beta 5, Apple has included a new feature called Signal Quality.
When you see it on your iPhone 6, 7, 8 or XS Max, you're looking at the performance of your cellular network. While most users will want to fix their Wi-Fi network first, I suggest you check out your cellular network because it can be the source of frustrating network issues.
When you run Signal Strength, you'll notice your LTE icon in the upper right hand corner of your screen. This means your iPhone is connecting and sending data via cellular. Let's start by disabling LTE if it's currently active.
Turn off Cellular Data. Press and hold the power button on your phone until the Apple logo appears. When it does, press the option key on your keyboard (that's the circle one) on your phone and then quickly press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, then press the power button again when your iPhone asks you to.
After the phone wakes up from sleep mode, you'll notice there's no Wi-Fi name or LTE name next to the cellular icon on your screen. If you're on Verizon or AT&T, this means your iPhone won't use your data plan to connect with the cellular network.
So what do you do next? First, download and install the Mobile Data Barometer app that the iClarified team created to troubleshoot your cellular data problems. If you don't have access to the App Store or simply can't get the app onto your phone, you can go to iTunes and download it manually. Once you have the app, open the app and open it on the App screen (tap the iPhone in the lower left corner of your screen and select AppStore). Then search for and install the app.
Once the app opens, on the main page, tap Start Mobile Data Barometer and wait a couple of seconds for the app to perform its magic. Open Signal Strength. To see your current Signal Strength, open the Siri, Control Center, or Home screen by pressing and holding the home button. You can also open the app and hit the Signal Strength or Cellular buttons within the app.
