How do I bypass a website block using DNS?
There are a few ways to do this. You can do it by using a VPN. But if you have access to the router, there is another way that you can try. The easiest way is to clear your DNS cache from the browser.
From Firefox. Tools -> Clear Caches and then select DNS. In Chrome. Settings -> Clear Browsing Data -> Manage Passwords. This is what your router may be configured to do. You can access your router settings, and look for a DNS settings page. That's where your router tells the web traffic which nameservers to use when resolving IP addresses.
Some routers have an option for this, and if you have access to a web interface you should be able to do it from there. You can also go into the configuration of your local network and tell your computers to use an external DNS server that isn't one provided by your ISP. That's what I'm guessing your ISP is doing here. If they didn't have that setting in their router, then this won't work.
How do I unblock access to a website?
We may be receiving many questions at this time asking how to unblock access to a website.
We have received many similar queries and our answer is the same, we are getting very few and we are only doing so for sites that abuse the use of web proxies and VPNs and this abuse is causing significant network load on our servers.
How to unblock your access to any website. As an example we received just over 5 requests per minute to unblock access to the following URLs, we have no control over these requests, although we know they are being made:
Now the reason we are being bombarded is because someone was using the above sites to gain access to other legitimate sites. If you believe that you are visiting the site www.torrentsite.xyz then you will not find anything there and it is simply a malicious site which has been set up to look like a legitimate site.
This person was able to gain access to other legitimate sites via their own web proxy server.
Which DNS unblocks websites?
I've been told that the DNS servers for unblocked websites have changed recently.
The original ones, eg 8.8, have been replaced by ones that don't seem to do anything other than redirect people to sites like Google, etc.
Are these DNS servers, or are they not DNS servers? Are they just DNS servers which are operated by an ISP, or by Google? I'm wondering what's going on here, and what I should be doing. Should I be using 8.8 instead of 4.2. Should I be using one of the non-redirecting DNS servers, eg 8.8, or 8.
Re: DNS unblocks websites? This is the "new" DNS system that has been in place since November. Since it appears to be only available to a small number of ISPs, it is not necessarily your problem, as it may have nothing to do with your home/ISP. If you are being served sites that are being blocked by your ISP then this is most likely a question for them. If you are seeing sites that you had been previously served, such as Yahoo!, Google, etc., then it may be due to a change in the DNS system.
If you want to find out more information, check the message on the bottom of your ISP's website, if you have one. Or contact your ISP directly.
I'm not sure what you mean by "unblocked sites", but your ISP probably has a list of websites that are allowed and a list of websites that are blocked. You can get access to the blocked list by requesting it from your ISP.
Thanks for the info, Mike. However, I am not using my ISP's DNS service. So, I'm not sure how to contact them about this. Also, I'm seeing a lot of different URLs, so I'm not sure which ones are "allowed" and which ones are blocked.
