What is the saying about team and dream?
A team is dream.
A team can be made of wood, stone, and a pile of dirt. It can be made of steel, and it can even be made of plastic. But none of these things are a dream. What they are is tangible. What they are is a reality. A team is something you can see, hear, and touch. A team is a thing. But when you combine these two things, something magical happens.
You make a dream. Dreams, to most people, are dreams. Dreams are intangible things. They are in your mind. And maybe, just maybe, if you're lucky enough, you may even come to know it by name. But dreams are not really things. They are not tangible. They are not real. They are just imagination. They are the things in your mind.
But, what do you do when you have this thing in your mind? What do you do when you have this intangible and imaginary thing in your head? What is it? What does it do? How can you make it? How can you harness this thing and turn it into a reality? We want to show you something. We want to show you something that will make you understand. We want to make a dream come true.
We want to show you a dream. The next time you get in your car, drive down a road, or ride a bus, watch the city from afar, we want you to think about the fact that you are actually being transported in an object that is made of steel, rubber, and plastic. Everything that you see, smell, and hear is going through that big ol' machine you call a machine.
The reality is that machine does not know that you exist. It doesn't know that you are a person. It doesn't know that you are alive. It doesn't know that you are a thing. It doesn't know that you are human.
But that doesn't matter. That doesn't change anything. That doesn't change a single thing.
Our machine isn't here for you. Our machine is here for us.
What is the message of teamwork?
It doesn't have to be a team sports mentality.
It could be an attitude or attitude. It could be the attitude of wanting to work with someone else and not for them. It could be the attitude of wanting to build something for each other. I used to work with a really great woman in sales. She was smart and funny and fun to work with and her people skills were outstanding. I never heard her utter the word team. She never wanted to build a team and never wanted to help anyone else work. If she helped you then it was because you were in her way or your competition had bought her out. There was no team aspect. It was strictly my way or the highway. The word team is just a buzz word and a marketing term but it doesn't need to mean that.
Teamwork is about building something together and it starts with respect. You have to respect your people if you want to work together. If you can't do that you won't last long.
It isn't easy to build a team. That is where teamwork starts and builds a solid foundation. As an independent you have to start building a team. I think we all know the old truism, if you build it they will come. But the more accurate saying is if you build it they will join. It's difficult to find people who are good at what you do and that is where teamwork comes in. So how do you build your team? You just keep putting yourself out there and let your team do the rest. But first you have to do it.
I would say teamwork is the attitude of trying to work with someone else and not for them. So there is a difference between teamwork and being part of a team. Most people think the two are synonymous but in reality one can't exist without the other.
My philosophy, of which I don't believe I have ever lived up to it is, To be a great salesman I have to build a great relationship with each client. A great relationship with each client enables me to talk to each client as an individual. An individual customer is very easy to work with and provides the best opportunity for sales.
