How do I unblock websites on my school Wi-Fi?
I have a home computer, but I use it mostly for gaming and watching videos on my school's Wi-Fi.
I get frustrated with having to enter the password every time I want to go to a website. I have tried connecting to the school's Wi-Fi network, but it always connects to my home's network and not the school's. How do I change that?
How to remove a block. On macOS 10. The default choice is "Allow app". But you may choose "Block app" if you wish.
Note: In the screenshots below, "My Apple ID" refers to the account used to sign into your Apple ID with an Apple device. The same applies to "Apple ID" (the user's account on macOS) and "Microsoft Account" (the user's account on Windows).
You need to configure your Wi-Fi router to point to the correct Wi-Fi network. This could be the actual Wi-Fi network you're using, or you might have another Wi-Fi network with the same SSID and encryption type as your school's Wi-Fi network.
To check the settings for your router, you can look at its manual, or just log into your router with a web browser and navigate to. You can also find this setting by opening up your router's network control panel, which will normally be in the top-right corner of your router's UI.
How do I get Wi-Fi on my school phone?
A phone can have Wi-Fi either through the Wi-Fi feature or by using a separate wireless router.
The phones with Wi-Fi on their own, without the router, are called Mobile Wi-Fi devices. On these devices the Wi-Fi is only there if you activate it. And the way to activate it is through an app.
If your phone has an inbuilt app for the Wi-Fi, the app should open the settings of your phone and there is an option for "Wi-Fi". If not, you need to download the Wi-Fi app from the playstore and follow the instructions to open the settings and find the Wi-Fi option. For an iPhone, it's Settings --> Wi-Fi and for Android it's Settings --> About --> WiFi and choose the option to "Turn on Wi-Fi". Once the Wi-Fi is enabled on your phone, you can connect to the Wi-Fi network of your school and access your email/WhatsApp etc.
How do I get Wi-Fi to work in school?
Wi-Fi in school is an awesome thing!
My 7 year old niece, who just started school this year, wanted to go into another room where there was Wi-Fi, since my sister who also shares our house (and who has always had a cell phone) can use it easily to talk and text with her boyfriend and friends. Of course, she is at school most of the time. But she often asks me what type of Wi-Fi system she needs so that she can stay connected in class, etc.
We have Internet access but its speed and reliability are not good, and a Wi-Fi connection would be much better. Here is the part of the problem -- we don't live next to our school. Although there is broadband cable Internet we have to pay for this since we don't live close enough.
The school (and the rest of our community, I'm sure) don't think it is wise to charge our Internet fees and then let all those outside students have good Wi-Fi without paying any more for this service. So here's my question. I want to buy her a wireless router and connect it to the school's Wi-Fi, but I don't want to use anything other than the free Wi-Fi provided by the school if I can. (Because they will be providing it too much anyway.) Is there such a router out there that I can plug right into our modem and connect the Wi-Fi right at school? And how do I connect it, and what does it look like? Do I need some sort of adapter (not sure if that's correct term!) or something?
Does this sound like a good plan? Does anybody know of such a router that would be recommended? Should I just ask my sister to just sign up for it and use the free Wi-Fi that they already provide? If there are free routers available at schools, which routers are they and how do you connect to the WLAN in the school? I suspect that it would help your niece learn things about networks and TCP/IP if you bought her a computer with a network card and taught her to do stuff like plug into LANs, set up an internal server, create a shared directory, etc. I don't know about free routers at schools, but I do know that Cisco offers free wireless routers as part of their network solutions product line.
