What illness did Mrs. Dubose have?

What did Mrs. Dubose vow to before she died?

Did she vow that all of those books you used to be so fond of would stay with you?

You couldn't find them. Not in your room, not in the library, not anywhere."

"I.I don't know what you mean."

"You're an awful liar, Henry." "No, no. I'm not a liar."

"It's funny how nobody else thinks so." "What are you talking about?". "The way you talk. Your voice is like something in a cheap movie, and you're a terrible liar."

"You must have misheard." "Why did you run away from a nice old lady, Henry?". "We weren't.I wasn't talking to her. She's been dead for years."

"There's an empty spot where she used to live. It's been empty a long time."

Henry felt very alone as he sat and stared out of the window. He knew that no one else was in the house. After all, where else could they be? They had taken the entire upstairs. They had carted his clothes to the laundry room, his books to the basement. They had taken the old clock and the rug in the hallway, but he still knew that they were somewhere in this room. They were watching him." he asked.

"The old lady. She said you'd tell anyone who told you anything about us that you were crazy."

"I haven't seen you in years. Why would I tell anyone anything?" "Because you'd do anything, Henry. That's why we do things like make you run away. We could have let you do anything you wanted to. No one's ever stopped you before. And you know what you said to us once, don't you?"

"I don't remember saying anything." "You did. You said, 'You want me to run away? I'll run away.' Don't you remember?"

Henry looked around the room. There were no books. No more pictures. The clock was gone, but the mantelpiece was bare. There was no more fireplace.

"We can be as cruel as we want," said Mrs. Dubose. "But the way you use people is terrible.

How does Mrs. Dubose die?

Is she shot?

Or is she hung, to die slowly?

Does the police believe that she died from "natural causes" or does he believe she was murdered? What evidence was there that she was killed? Is it possible to determine whether this was an apparent suicide or a real death? The wife and her son's room were searched. No one was charged for that search. It is not clear if they did their own search or had a warrant to search.

Did the police really investigate the crime scene and question witnesses or did they just dust for prints and collect any evidence they found? They seem to have been pretty thorough, searching both the house and the yard, though they could have just done the house. They found a gun and bullet next to the body. The woman was likely murdered, but the autopsy doesn't explicitly state that.

Can anyone speculate about the timing of the incident in relation to other crimes? It was apparently committed at night in cold blood, which means someone must have been watching the home at night while the woman was alone with her son.

Did Mrs. Dubose die from morphine?

Dear Carole, I am not sure where I read this article but it makes me think of this question.

I know the drugs have killed many of us.

For those that survived the drug addiction in the 60's, did they die from the drugs or morphine from the surgery for removal of breasts, hysterectomy for cancer in the womb, or other surgeries that were performed without anesthesia? I read a book a while back, "The Life and Death of Marilyn Monroe," where the author wrote about what caused her death. He said he suspected it was not only the drugs but also because of the surgeries she had before her last performance with the Russel Brothers, ie hysterectomy, etc. I have never checked but I am thinking those procedures could have been the cause of death. Since a little boy I have said, "If you love someone, stand by them through any kind of difficulties they may face."

I have seen a few movies, like "In Cold Blood," about the real life murders committed by Dr. Gary Gilmore. In the movie, he talks about the fact he "killed" at least one person that had tried to stop him in his tracks and I was pretty sure the guy, who was just sitting there, he shot right in the head. I guess he felt so much hatred towards the one who tried to stop him killing that all the death took on a purpose. It would be a great tragedy, the deaths of many people over drugs, or greed, and we should all stand up and try to stop the evil from happening.

I think a lot of deaths are due to the people themselves and who knows the real reason, but I think we can make a difference. It's my hope that many people will think about these questions today. Have a great day,
Susan. It doesn't matter what the reasons were, it only matters what happened. Why does your family have to live with this pain? What a terrible loss you and your wife had. It would be so much easier on him, the person who did the actual murder, to go home to be with his wife and family and to remember what he did wrong. The best medicine is forgiveness if we cannot find it for ourselves. The family of the deceased will never be whole again. She will always be missing.
