Can we change widevine L3 to L1?
The widevine content protection technology was developed to protect the media players that are used for internet-streaming.
These media players can only be used with a license from WideVine and these licenses are expensive. To avoid the cost of the license, some media players have been configured to run an altered version of the WideVine content protection technology that is called Widevine L1. The intention is that these modified player will be easier to license. This article is a very quick guide on how to configure your media player to run Widevine L1.
If you are going to change the settings of your player, then you need to make sure that the player is able to run the new version of Widevine. This can be done by updating the firmware. For details on how to update the firmware, please refer to this article. If the firmware is already up to date, you can use the instructions below.
Note: It is highly recommended that you backup the files that you are going to modify before doing this. Step 1: Open the player configuration file in Notepad. Locate the path where your player's firmware is located on your PC. This can be found using Windows Explorer. This will be something like the following:
C:Program Files (x86)
Step 2: Search for L3. Locate the line that starts with L3 and delete it. You should see two lines that start with L3. Delete them.
Locate the line that starts with Widevine L3 and delete it.txt file.
Restart the player.
What is the difference between widevine L1 and L3?
One thing I've noticed is that when you are in widevine L1 there is a green circle (as seen here ) and widevine L3 has no such circle. Why is this? What does this circle stand for? I also noticed that using the plugin (in L3) I can watch video from websites which say they are only available in the "original version" (and not in L3). Is this a bug? Finally, my understanding is that these plugins only work with IE 11 and above. Is that correct? If so, is it possible to watch YouTube videos in old IE with widevine L1 or L3? Why is there a green circle and what does it mean? The circle is an indication that the current user agent supports DRM. For more info, see this help topic: Does this mean that there is no difference between Widevine L1 and L3? No. Both Widevine plugins are required for DRM streaming, and as such have different purposes and implementations.
Does this mean I can watch YouTube videos with these plugins? Yes, as long as the sites you visit support DRM. I would check the sites you mentioned in your question to see what they say about Widevine support.
How do I fix Netflix widevine L1?
I've looked all over the internet and have been unsuccessful in finding anything that works.
I am going to be getting an Amazon Fire TV Stick, so any and all help is greatly appreciated! I went into the settings on my LG G3, and tried to add a new source (under system services), but couldn't get it to work. When I go into the settings for Widevine L1, the only option available for streaming is to "Turn Off," which is not a solution.
I'm running the Android 5.1 update, but I did a Factory Reset just a few weeks ago, so I'm not sure if this has something to do with it. I didn't think I could be missing anything, but I'm not entirely sure what to do next. Any help is greatly appreciated!
My LG G3 has widevine L1 enabled, and I'm having issues with Netflix on it. When I go to Netflix, it says that the video is "Widevine L1," but when I click play, it says, "The video could not be played because it was not found. The source you selected could not be found." However, it works fine on the apps listed in the "Widevine L1 settings" in the Google Play store.
I went into the settings on my LG G3, and tried to add a new source (under system services), but couldn't get it to work. Sorry for the long post! I am new to this forum, so I hope that it isn't against the rules. I want to keep this thread updated for others who may need help.
Edit: I should clarify that I am referring to a Fire TV Stick, not an actual TV.
