How do I fix Google Play Services not working?
My wife is not able to use her Google Play services for my Android phone. The error message she receives is "Google Play Services not working" and it's "Google Play Services, version 1.6.8239, requires Google Play services, version 1.228912, but was unable to resolve dependency. See for more details".
She is not able to download any apps through Google Play either. All the apps are listed as "Install Failed". She uses a Samsung Galaxy S3 (T-Mobile) running Android 4. We are in Canada. I am not able to do anything on my phone at all. I have contacted Samsung and T-Mobile. They have no idea how to fix this. The only thing I know of that I might try to do is reset my phone. But, I don't even know if that will help.
I've updated the firmware on the mobile phone. She hasn't done any of those.
This is the "Update information about your device" page: Google Play services, version 1.228912, requires Google Play services, version 1.8239, but was unable to resolve dependency.
I have checked the URL provided and don't see any details. I would be happy to post more info, but there is nothing to post. I'm in a similar situation as my wife.
I have an HTC Wildfire with CM10, and had the same issue. A Google engineer called me and said it was a network issue. My phone didn't have an option to reset network settings, so I had to reset my phone. After that, I haven't had the problem.
The phone doesn't have an option to reset network settings. I did have to set my SIM card to a different carrier when I got it. I believe that is what caused the problem. I would imagine it happens with people who don't have the option to change their carrier from the home screen. It seems that the carrier decides to use your phone rather than the SIM card. I guess it can happen from anywhere?
I have the exact same problem. I have tried everything. I have changed carriers.
What causes Google Play Services to stop?
Google Play Services is one of the most widely used Android apps. However, it is not always a good idea to use it, because it can stop working without notice. We will look into in the next section.
Why does Google Play Services stop working? When your app uses the Play Services library, Google's servers send information to your device to keep Google Maps running smoothly. The main function of Play Services is to detect errors on your device. This service stops your app from crashing and helps the user locate the position of your current location.
However, if Google cannot detect your device, the app will be stopped, and some apps require that Google Play Services works well. In this case, we will cover the following two reasons why Google Play Services stops working.
1) Device error. 2) Location disabled. Google Play Services Stopping due to Device error. Google Play Services stops when your app runs incorrectly on the device for other reasons, but sometimes there is no way to find the root cause of the error. Even if there is a problem, we cannot always fix the problem on the device. Sometimes, it may happen that Google Play Services stops just because the device or smartphone's data has been modified or deleted. It would be impossible to fix the problem with the root cause, so Google Play Services stops.
Google Play Services Stopping due to Location disabled. Google Play Services stops when the device cannot measure or understand your location because you have disabled location on the device or when your device has no network. For example, if there are no nearby Wi-Fi hotspots, the GPS does not work anymore, and your app needs to understand the location to work properly.

How do I reinstall Google Play Services?
The problem with the stock ROM is that you'll never be able to update it with new builds from the Play Store. But there's a simple solution that will work for now: if you find yourself on a version of Android lower than Lollipop, flashing the file at the end of this article will allow you to use an ADB-backed solution to install any new APKs from the Play Store right onto your rooted device. And, of course, you can always choose to revert to the stock ROM once you've been satisfied with all of your new updates. This process is described in more detail below.
Download a compatible driver for your modem from our Driver Search tool. Make sure that you select "Android modem" in the search field.
Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable. Start the Google Play Store application on your PC and open the settings screen by clicking the menu icon in the top right corner. In the left column of the settings screen, click on Modify > Add or Remove. Type your Nexus 6P's IMEI number in the search bar, and click OK when you've located it. Click Modify and accept the dialog's warning. Click Modify again. Click Add Software, then click OK. Select OTA Update from the drop-down menu. Select the download path on your computer for the driver and click Download. When finished installing the driver, disconnect the USB cable from your device. Reboot your device into recovery mode.
