How do I enable less secure access to Google apps?
I have 3 Google apps accounts, and 2 of them are associated with my work Gmail account.
The latest I have received a notification about less secure access to Google apps has the checkbox for "Enable less secure apps". All the info that it requires is entered in the window that pops up after I click "Enable" and I have done this with 2 other Google accounts.
Here's the text of what is required: At first I thought the problem was that I was receiving notifications about less secure access from two accounts. I logged out of one and tried again and received a notice saying "You're using a less secure app - Learn more about enabling less secure apps."
I tried both an email address I use for work, and a personal email address, but I still get a notification about less secure access. How do I resolve this? First of all if you use a domain based gmail account it should be enabled if you are enrolled for two factor auth. If you are using a personal gmail account then google wont ask for the email. You should check if you got email from google like so
I used a personal gmail account and I still got emails, however I went to go to. And there I clicked activate and after a few seconds it said activated and I was good to go.
Why does Gmail not show less secure apps?
I just installed Thunderbird for the first time on a Linux machine and noticed that Gmail was not showing the option for less secure apps in the security options menu.
I do have a Gmail account with a password and I get an extra warning when I open Thunderbird. But this is not showing up for me in the Gmail settings for some reason. Does anyone know why this may be?
@Duffers: The only way to see less secure apps is to look for them in the Security tab in your Gmail settings. I've never seen them listed in the security settings of other email apps.
What version of Thunderbird are you using? I have a version 7.0.1 and I see the less secure apps listed in the security tab.
I've also had my mail with Gmail pass through (using IMAP) since 2025 and have never had an issue. The only way I've ever had trouble with gmail is if I try to use it while logged into other services. Otherwise, it just works fine for me. I use pop3 so it may be different for you, but I haven't had a problem with gmail in many years.
When I use the link to download the app, it says there is no update available. If I download the program, can I make sure it updates itself or do I have to do that manually? This may be a dumb question, but how do I know what version of Thunderbird I am running? I think I have 2.0, but I can't find where to check it on the site. Also, I am using Firefox, not Internet Explorer. I don't see the option to update in the help either. Thanks!
@Anon: Go to your email's settings page and click on View all message headings. Look at the version number of Thunderbird. It should say 2.0 in the URL. If it says 2.0, then you have 2. If it says 0.1, then you are using 0.
If you aren't sure what version you have, then you can download it here and check that the version is the same as the one you have.
What is the alternative of less secure apps in Gmail?
I have used less secure apps a lot and it is one of the best.
Now I can not use less secure apps for Gmail any more, as it is not able to read the less secure apps' content, and also not able to decrypt some of them. Is there any other app or plugin for Google Chrome that can read less secure apps like less secure apps on Gmail?
You can use an extension in Google Chrome. Install the "TLS interception proxy" extension.
This is the best way I know to decrypt those apps which are not designed for chrome or firefox.
