Is PIA worth the money?

Can I try PIA for free?

No, unfortunately not. There's a catch. PIA allows you to view web pages in a number of languages, but if you want a different language than English or Dutch, then you have to pay.

At the time of writing, there are just four languages available (which includes English). If PIA doesn't meet your requirements, I hope that we can soon see the likes of BabelBox launch services that let you browse websites with more languages available.

Let's take a look at PIA's features: Access the Internet and do tasks using one click. You can access the Internet in nine languages, including Czech, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian and Spanish. You'll be able to translate pages (using Google Translate), email, chat, check your bank balance and download files.

View web pages, apps and more. PIA offers you to view thousands of apps and websites. These include YouTube, Facebook, Flickr and more. You can add more by downloading the desktop app to your smartphone or tablet and connecting to it. You can also save websites so you can access them later.

Quickly download apps. You can either use the desktop app to download and install apps directly to your computer or you can connect your phone or tablet to your PC using USB cable and install the apps on the connected device using the Windows File Explorer. Download images. You can directly download pictures from Picasa, Flickr or Facebook to the desktop. A simple to use interface lets you pick the pictures you want to download, select them and then click Download.

The desktop app works great. After connecting your phone or tablet you can immediately begin browsing websites in that particular language, and then can even translate pages if desired.

But I have a small problem. Currently only four languages are available, and I live in the USA (USA English) and so there is no way that I can get an account. I can't even find one to try out. There isn't even a try now option like you see on some of the websites (like Bing). It would be great if there was a link that I could access and see what the interface was like.

What VPN is better than PIA?

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network, which allows users to send and receive data over the internet. If you use a VPN for online gaming or torrenting, it's going to provide much faster connections, more security and a completely anonymous experience. This guide will help you decide whether PIA is the best VPN for your needs. If you're using PIA, we recommend paying 3 per month. If you're looking for alternatives, take a look at CyberGhost, CyberCodex or VyprVPN.

How does VPN work? When you connect to a VPN server, the connection between your computer and the internet is encrypted. All of the information sent back and forth between your computer and website remains confidential. Instead of connecting to the website directly through your internet provider, you connect through the VPN server and your online activity is routed through the VPN.

When you connect to a site through a VPN, the website will see your IP address as if you were connecting from that VPN server. So even if you are connecting through your internet provider, they won't be able to view any personal information like your location, or the websites you've visited.

How to find out if your ISP blocks PIA? To check if your ISP blocks PIA, visit PIA's website. The 'Privacy Policy' tab will display your IP address. Go to your Google search bar, type 'www.whatismyip.com' and enter your IP address there.

Why should I trust Private Internet Access?

There is a common problem we have dealt with in the past and are now providing a solution to. More and more people want to bypass their ISPs filtering and block ads, however some of them also want to get around ISP's filters. This often leads to a loss of control of personal information, the inability to access and/or use the internet, or even jail time.

Here at Private Internet Access we decided that people do not need to lose control of their data, as there is an alternative. When you join Private Internet Access you gain full control over your internet connection and data without your ISP or governments having any ability to filter, access, or monitor it. By being on PIA means you are protected by VPN that will encrypt any of your traffic to and from our server with military-grade AES 256 bit encryption that prevents anyone listening from finding any of your data. You can be sure that everything sent between you and us is encrypted, safe, and private.

How will VPN keep my identity safe? As long as you maintain anonymity, your identity can always remain a secret from everyone on the Internet and if that were ever violated, we would only have ourselves to blame. Most of the risks can be found in what information you divulge into the public or private sphere, and even though we can do little to address that outside offering better protections for what we already offer, our aim is to minimize the amount of information that needs to be exchanged through public channels. We'll never sell your identity and information to others, nor allow access from unauthorized sources.

How does private internet access protect me against government monitoring? When governments are unable to find a way to circumvent security that is provided by a company and then turn to other means of surveillance, you should not need to worry about things like IP logs that would track all connections made over a month or two of time. Instead, we offer secure connections to our clients across multiple countries in which to mask their IP address, thereby making tracking extremely unlikely.

However, with the internet growing and its usage increasing every day, governments continue to look for more ways to monitor those they deem a threat.

Does PIA have a free trial?

If not, there are several third-party options to test PIA's services. We personally use a hosted version of Site24x7's CloudWatch, which has been mentioned in this post before. CloudWatch is free for a limited number of hours each day. You can monitor more than one site from a single dashboard, and it also supports more than one domain. See the link below to cloudwatch.com if you'd like to sign up for a trial of their service. Also, try monitoring your own websites by using the free web analytics tool provided on (the same site as PIA's front end) .

When you purchase a monitoring service, there are generally two types of monitoring packages offered. The first is unlimited monitoring. I've never been fond of this type of package as a potential client. I prefer a package where there is a fixed amount of charges and no additional fees, though of course the service will stop running after a period of time.

There are two popular services that do exactly this. The most popular of the bunch is Site24x7. For a company with many sites to monitor, they offer a very affordable option. They also offer "SaaS" packages where you pay per hour.

The second, less-popular but much cheaper option is paid "free" trials. In an effort to stand out in the crowded space, these services offer limited services for free. You can test their monitoring abilities for free on a non-production site and even see how your own domain (or even multiple domains) performs in their system. This is usually an ad-based revenue model that works based on a combination of direct sales, AdWords, and "affiliate" sales. In the beginning I used such a service and found it pretty good, but after 6 months, I switched to paying for something more durable.

Here are a few of these services: Site24x7 - Free trial that allows up to 3 hours of traffic/day. Only monitors one domain at a time, and only detects whether your site is accessible or not.

Which is better IPVanish or PIA?

I've been looking for a service to do some P2P, torrenting and general entertainment purposes. Both the IPVanish and the PIA offers that I see offer unlimited data to use in a month free. I use PIA all the time for Torrents but since I'm in Canada, my unlimited data is on par with any other PIA customer on their unlimited plan.

So which one is better? I was wondering if PIA offers any kind of premium or add-on packages? Does either of these two have any special benefits for me because I'm actually interested in the VPN itself and not just in an unlimited data plan? Yes you could go to a VPN provider who specializes in VPN. That way you will get support in your areas of need. I suggest that you look into them and sign up, so you can have a more direct discussion with someone as it relates to what is best for you. A great place to start would be

@jeff: Thanks for the link I will check that out! This was all of my searches so far: Which one is better? It appears that IPVanish also offers limited-time promotional or bonus subscriptions when signing up for an account. For instance, after getting started with a month or six months of basic service, there may be additional charges involved. IPVanish is a great service if you are looking for a no log service. It offers a lot for free but in order to get rid of the ads, you will need to upgrade to the premium plan. If you don't care about the ads, then get the no log service.
