Why is the SoftEther VPN not working?
How to repair?
Please note that the following information is provided as-is, without warranty. The SoftEther VPN does not guarantee that the SoftEther VPN will work if you follow these instructions. For any questions about how to set up a Virtual Private Network, consult the SoftEther VPN manual or visit our support page.
If you are using Firefox, check to see if the SSL is enabled by default in the privacy settings and disable the option to allow all websites to use the SSL. Also note that if you are using Chrome, Mozilla's browser based on Chrome (as opposed to Google's own browser) the SSL is automatically enabled so it's recommended that you should disable it in order to avoid this issue.
When you click Settings on your browser, you may see a message from the software warning you that the SSL security is configured to be turned off due to a configuration error. You have to choose to enable the SSL as suggested, or proceed with the operation but may experience some issues such as SSL failures or errors. This is actually an indication that your SSL may have been damaged by the software as the SSL itself requires specific configurations so any configuration error would be a cause for concern. To further fix the SSL and avoid any security issues, please contact us at support@softethervpn.
This issue is caused by the SSL being configured to be turned off since the software itself has a configuration error which does not allow to set up the SSL properly. As a result, all connections are treated as TLS connections rather than HTTPS connections. If the SSL settings have been tampered with, you should have no issues as SSL has been disabled or the SSL certificate is invalid. To resolve this issue, please follow the steps below:
In the SoftEther VPN program: Go to Menu -> Preferences -> General. Right-click -> Properties. In the Properties window, click on the Security tab.
Click on OK button. After that the SSL setting should be fixed automatically. If it's still not working, follow the troubleshooting steps in this manual and try other SSL settings that can be enabled such as TLS or any other settings.
NOTE: Even though the SSL was disabled and may appear not working, it doesn't mean that SSL hasn't been enabled. As long as the SSL setting is not tampered with, SSL will be enabled.
Where can I find my VPN password?
I am logged in to the VPN provider as admin.
Is your password safe? How long is my password? What can they see on my network traffic, and who could get into my account? How do I keep hackers out? How do you set up a VPN on my mobile device, or on Windows 7 or 8? How do I set up a new user account on my Windows system? How does VPN work? "Are you using the correct password?". If they're asking that, then you have a serious problem. You can't really expect them to be able to guess what's in your head, or even know what a valid password would be for a particular service, when the vast majority of the time their only knowledge of you is your email address and username and password on that particular system (hopefully with an encrypted login form), or possibly the fact that you're logged in right now.
What that says is that their "can you guess a password" test has no point to it. Because you can't provide it with the correct details, because you never know that they're using that information to attempt logins to other websites.
If they want to try to login to Facebook from your computer, they won't use your actual username and password that your friend gave you at Facebook. They'll use something created on Facebook's system which they don't have to authenticate. Then they'll enter that as the username, which won't match the one you have logged into their system using so they'll put in the wrong password. Then they'll have an empty Facebook login screen without your friend having seen that page, and your friend will now have 2 identical FB accounts, not to mention all your stuff you share there has also just appeared in their friend list, and that email notification saying that you've now got a new friend.
If they want to try to guess your password for your bank account they'd have to be able to see you log into the bank via their system. They wouldn't do that, not if you had strong passwords, and they're not that good at guessing (yet) so they'll likely go looking for a random user name and password combination.
