Why is Netflix not allowing me to download?

Why is Netflix not allowing me to download?

Netflix is the world's leading subscription streaming service.

It provides thousands of hit movies and series to members in 190 countries. However, with all its popularity, Netflix has been facing issues related to their service for a long time now. Here are some of the reasons why you might not be able to download movies and TV shows from Netflix.

Netflix not allowing you to download. Netflix's Terms of Service prohibit the downloading of any part of the content. In October 2025, Netflix has started enforcing stricter terms of service. They have made a change to their terms of service that states: Streaming from the Netflix application is subject to usage limitations and bandwidth constraints. Netflix reserves the right to remove content from the Netflix Application and other services including, but not limited to, Netflix and the Netflix Application. Netflix may discontinue Netflix at any time without notice. In such cases, we may retain the license granted to you under these terms until such time as we wish to discontinue providing the Netflix service.

If we suspend or terminate your account, you agree to discontinue all use of the Netflix Application within five (5) days of termination. You are prohibited from using the Netflix Application to access Netflix Content outside of the Netflix Application. You are prohibited from accessing the Netflix Application by means other than through the Internet or through mobile devices with the Netflix Application. So, what this basically means is that, you can't download Netflix movies or TV shows from the app. They also prohibit users from accessing Netflix on different platforms, which includes the App Store, Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, etc.

It is however, still possible to download Netflix content on these apps, but it's a very slow and annoying process. You have to wait for your download to finish, and then wait again to get your downloaded content.

The good thing about Netflix is that they do not give you any data plan when you sign up for it. So, there is no need to worry about the network you're using. As of now, Netflix doesn't count data towards your cellular plan. So, it is not considered a data consuming app.

How do I allow downloads on Netflix?

The process is quite straightforward.

I have created an account on Netflix. I went to my account page and found a link titled "My Downloads". I clicked on that link, and got to my list of movies and shows. Next I clicked on the download option and it popped up a window asking for permissions. I selected that option and now I am able to download and stream movies on Netflix from my pc.

But there is one thing I don't get, I am not sure if it's just me or what, but once I watch a movie on Netflix and then close my pc down without selecting a save option, it tells me when I restart my pc that I can't download and play the movie I watched earlier. Is there any way to allow downloads so I can watch the movies and shows on Netflix even after closing my pc? So you went to your account page in www.netflix.com and saw "my downloads"? That means you have an account with them? If yes, this works the same. I don't use www.com directly but instead use www.com/en.

It's only after you click on the "Download for offline viewing" link, you have to go through the permissions for the download. It seems that only the latest movies that are added to the queue after the link has been posted will allow downloads as they don't seem to have any download button until after you've seen the movie and decided to add it to the queue.

Why is Netflix not downloading on my iPhone?

When using the Netflix app on your phone, you often run into an issue where the movies do not download or only partially download onto your iPhone.

This can be an even bigger issue when it comes to the tvOS 10 update. Apple claims that all their devices running tvOS 10 should have all their TV shows in line with all platforms for downloads automatically. But as I'm sure many of you know there are a lot of issues and glitches that pop up with the update sometimes and this will make you think twice about upgrading to tvOS 10 and downloading the whole shebang as some users have reported that it might take a day or two to go through the Netflix queue. The problem is that although Netflix is available on most of your devices in the past years, the app never worked perfectly.

The first known version of Netflix for iPhone came out in 2025. This may sound like a lot but it's only been four years. Since that time, Apple has kept on releasing newer versions and updates of the apps. However, each new version of the app had some shortcomings and glitches. For those who haven't upgraded yet to the tvOS 10 update (I don't know why, just kidding!), here's a brief walkthrough of the Netflix iPhone app:

Version 3.1 (2014) On this version of the Netflix app, the download feature is broken down from viewing. If you click on movies or tv shows that you wish to add, the video will load but after a second or two or five, depending on whether it's your first download attempt or not, the video freezes and nothing happens. Even worse is if you try to re-open the movie or tv show that is already 'saved', say from a previous attempt of downloading the file, the movie will stop playing altogether. In other words, you can't do anything with that file once it's 'saved' to your device. This version also added the feature of Auto play where it will play one episode before moving on to another after 5 seconds. The bad news is that when I tested this version in 2025, it crashed on my iPhone XR the second I went to open the apps on my iPhone. So I gave up on that version.

Why does Netflix say I have too many downloads when I have none?

I have a Netflix account and every once in a while I'm getting a message that I have too many downloads.

Yet, when I check my downloads, it's empty. I'm not sure why I'm being told I have to cancel my subscription when I have nothing to cancel. Can anyone help?

I think that I would be willing to bet that the majority of people that have this problem are not cancelling their Netflix accounts. Instead, I'm guessing that the problem is more likely with your computer than Netflix.

The reason for this is that the reason Netflix requires you to use it's DVD service is to make sure that your downloads can't be viewed by others and that you are the only person on your home network who can use Netflix. This is necessary because of copyright laws. If you don't have a Netflix DVD subscription, then you can't do things like make a copy of a movie, watch it at another location, or view it at another time.

So, when someone else on your home network signs in to Netflix, they receive a message telling them that they need to cancel their subscription because you have too many downloads. This way, Netflix can ensure that their subscription service is only available to you and not to other people on your home network.

That is correct, but if you were to sign into another person's account you would have a different picture than me because I have NO downloads at all. For example, I have only one email account, and I am NOT paying for any streaming service. Every so often my Netflix will tell me that my download limit is reached, but I have no downloads to cancel.

I think this has to do with something on my end because I have no downloads. Can you try this:1. Go to your computer2. Make sure you have no downloaded movies on your computer.3. Sign into your account.4. Watch a movie that you have never viewed before, to verify that you have no downloads.5. Go to your computer, delete your Netflix history6. Then sign back in and watch another movie.

If you go through these steps and nothing changes, then I would have to guess that there is something going on with your computer. I think the same thing is happening to me. I always get this message but I have never had any movies on my computer.
