How do I create a Private Internet Access account?
This guide will help you create a Private Internet Access account on the desktop version of Private Internet Access. If you have any problems while creating the account, please check out the help section.
Log into your Private Internet Access account and click on the Create Account button. Once you are in the account creation page, you will need to select an account type and enter a username and password. If you would like to select a Manual account, select that option. If you would like to select an automatic Auto-Create account, select that option. For more information on the difference between a manual and automatic account, click here.
If you would like to add more than one e-mail address, you can do so by clicking on the Add Account button. Next, enter the email address(es) that you wish to use with your Private Internet Access account. You will also need to enter your date of birth. If you would like to select an automatic Auto-Create account, you can select I accept the Terms and Conditions. Select a Manual account if you do not wish to automatically create the account. Click on the Next button. If you wish to add a second e-mail address, you will need to select the second e-mail address. You can select more than one if you would like.
Enter the email address and password for your second e-mail address. Enter your desired account password. This will be the password that you will use to login to your Private Internet Access account.
Enter a new password for your account. This password will be the password that you will use to login to your Private Internet Access account.
For security reasons, Private Internet Access will ask you to verify the account password. To verify, click on the Verify Account Password button.
The next screen will allow you to either enter a new verification code or verify your existing verification code. Enter the verification code sent to you via e-mail.
Does Private Internet Access have a free version?
I recently discovered Private Internet Access (PIA) - a VPN service which is free in some regions. This looks like an interesting service and it appears to have good technology (the service runs on a VPN Server and your router/client gets an IP address from the VPN subnet).
My question, then, is whether they offer a free version? I've only found it available in US/UK/Europe/Australia but not in most other markets (at least not right now). There's a lot to like about PIA (a fast VPN server, very little logging) but I am wary about them (not sure why, probably because they have dodgy reputation). So I was wondering if there is indeed a free version that you can use and how good it is?
PIA is also a member of the OpenVPN group and is compatible with OpenVPN. OpenVPN is widely regarded as one of the best solutions for protecting your private traffic from snooping.
Thanks, that's helpful. Is there a paid option that is just a bit slower/less secure than the free offering? Or does the free offering mean "this is totally free", without any further implications? I'm asking here because I didn't see anything about the pay-per-usage aspect of their system anywhere that was obvious (and I just wasn't looking hard enough).
I found the first link to a list of servers very useful for a lot of my tasks. Thank you! That was indeed helpful and I will definitely try a few of these servers myself. I will probably look into PIA's services (or at least the server infrastructure they are using) next as well. The "free to join" thing seems to imply it doesn't include paid support but that would be a fair statement, though from what I gather paid support is pretty good.
So if I get a connection from one of these servers, and its free to join, and they have good customer service, where do you think is the limit to how long this free version can be used before you need to subscribe?
