How do I disable proxy settings in Chrome Android?

Recently Google has updated the browser in Android (Google Chrome). Now it's possible to disable proxy settings. The problem is that it also disables the proxy configuration in other apps like Settings, Wifi, Browser and Messaging apps. Is there any option in Google Chrome that allows us to disable proxy configurations for proxy type only?

AFAIK, the current API only lets you choose proxy settings for individual apps. There is no way to configure proxy settings in all apps for an automatic proxy. The only option is to configure individual apps manually for proxy settings.

If you want to block some applications using the proxy settings, then simply block those applications from accessing the internet with either Android firewall or any third-party app. How to block app in android by creating new filter rule? - vlanshjFeb 17 '18 at 1:53. 1

I also have a Nexus 5 with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It is not possible to do that yet. Only one day later in December 2023, Android 6.0 finally adds the feature to block individual apps through network access, but it only applies to apps which support network access permissions. However, the filter does not apply to Chrome on Android, unless the user explicitly enables "Ask before setting up a new connection". So I believe that Google is currently waiting for Android 7.
David LeFeb 17 '18 at 19:40. I'm using 5.6 and I don't have such an option. But in all other apps the option is available. It's really annoying to me, that I have to block all network related requests every time I change application. Especially if it's the only option at my disposal.
David LeFeb 18 '18 at 2:12. @DavidLe There are a lot of people out there, who are having a similar problem. And as @vlanshj stated, we could not even enable the proxy settings for Chrome on Android Marshmallow yet. On 7. If you're still having trouble enabling the proxy settings, then it's possible that the problem may be related to the app permissions.

How do I find my proxy settings on Chrome Android?

I've been trying to find this for a while now.

The proxy settings are there, they just won't open the settings. From : If your browser is not configured to use a proxy, then you can use the Settings menu to add it manually. If your browser is configured to use a proxy, then the settings menu may be hidden. To display it, click the menu button on your browser toolbar.

So, if you're using a desktop browser, click the Menu button and open Settings, then open Network settings.

How do I disable proxy VPN on Android?

I am doing research on proxies, and how to configure them.

I have successfully connected to some websites using a proxy VPN, in combination with the Tor network and other browser add-ons that use VPNs.

But now I need to do the same thing, but without running any of those programs that connect directly to a VPN, via a VPN, or a proxy. So here are the things I need to know, before I try anything. Does VPN software actually work? (I'm trying to find that information out, so I can be more informed, than to blindly try it out). How do I disable whatever mechanism is being used on the phone, to find a proxy (in all apps, browsers, etc. Is there a list of VPN Apps for Android? (if so, please share). Thanks! Here's what I have learned so far. VPN software seems to work.for some things. When I tried it with an app that gave me a warning and stopped working all of a sudden, (one time it worked well and gave me access to the internet.the next day it stopped), I looked at the app, and saw that one of the "categories" of the "advanced features" was "proxy" or "proxy server".

I looked at this part of that feature in more detail. It looks as though I need to use the settings for the proxy, when setting up the proxy, or the app needs to prompt me to set the proxy, when needed.

I'm not 100% sure if that is what actually "happens", but it might be. A simple "disable" would be nice. It doesn't get any better than that. So why bother trying to find software that does NOT work. If it didn't work (at all), then you didn't have software that works. That means you need to just buy the software from those who have tested it.

Thank you for your support, but I am going to focus on getting a VPN application for android. I understand what a VPN application is for, and I understand most, if not all the benefits. However, please keep in mind that it is a new area for me, that I do not fully understand.

How do I disable proxy settings in Chrome?

Hi folks.

I've done some research, but have not found a method to turn off the "Enable Proxy Auto-Discovery" feature in Google Chrome. I am running Debian Squeeze Linux.

This is the default: chrome://settings/content/proxyAutodiscovery. To disable: chrome://settings/content/autoDetectSettings. So I went into this file and added this line: chrome.proxyAutodiscovery.disabled=true
It appears to be in the right place in the file. I now have a new problem. Google Chrome does not seem to be working correctly. I have two Firefox tabs open (one has a local proxy server running and the other one does not). If I open a new tab, it starts with the settings that are on the "local" proxy server. However, if I close this tab and open a new one (now both use the "no proxy server" setting), Chrome seems to assume I am going to be going to www.google.com, and then the proxy settings are applied. When I go to google.com, I get the error "This webpage has a redirect loop".

Please help! Is there any way to tell Google Chrome not to use the auto-discovery settings? Thanks in advance for your help. In the case of google chrome, it's possible to open an incognito window. So if you start Chrome by clicking on the file icon, the option will be present. For most browsers, this will not work.

To turn off auto discover: Navigate to. Click "Settings" at the bottom of the page. The proxy autodetection setting is called "Proxy Autodiscovery." Click "Manage exceptions" On the "Exceptions for Autodetect" page, add a hostname (or a list of hostnames). This can be done either from the text box or by right clicking and "Copy" the names.

For other people searching here: If you want to disable it for good then create a file named ".profile" in your home directory, name it anything. It has to be a text file.
