How do I see my screen time on Android?

How do I check my screen time in Samsung?

I want to set up my phone, and I want to be able to see my total screen time (which includes phone calls, text messages, and any other app-related screen time). I also want to be able to see my phone calls.

Where can I find that info? Thanks. This is a very common question. It's also one of the most complex answers. In this article I'm going to cover how to get started and why you might want to use a third party app.

First, it's important to understand that the phone manufacturers already have this information (and you may even have it) so the best thing to do is to just use the native phone applications from your phone manufacturer. If you want to manually control how much time you spend on your phone then there are many applications out there that will help you do this. The first application we'll look at is Screen Time. This is a free application that allows you to see what apps you've been using and how much time you've spent on each one.

It's a pretty simple app to use, but it has some limitations and will only tell you the time you've spent in your own apps. So let's say you wanted to know how much time you spent using an app that's not yours. That means you'd need to install a different app.

In fact, that's the main reason you'd want to use a third party application like Freedom (Free) or XBMC Media Center (Paid). The next step is to check the settings of your phone to see if it offers the option to limit your own usage. Most phones don't offer this option by default, but if you see a toggle for "Time Limit" or "Time Usage" you can adjust it yourself.

You can even create a rule to automatically reduce your usage when you leave the house. Just remember that apps like Freedom and XBMC Media Center will work on any phone, and they don't need a time limit on their own.

Finally, let's take a look at what's on your phone right now. If you have an Android phone you can download the Android Application Manager and look at what apps you've installed and how much time you've spent in them.

Android has a handy screen usage tracking system built in, which is similar to the task-manager used in Windows and Linux. The system uses statistics and analytics to estimate what apps you're using and how long you spend in them, so that you can make informed choices about spending time.

For many, the biggest use of that system is seeing the total time spent in each app, not just how much time was spent consuming content or looking at things. (In other words, it's the same kind of time-reporting we get on Macs and PCs using Activity Monitor in Mavericks or WinUtilities.) It's easy to look at it like a feature you need a tool to view but there is also a pretty good chance you have not used most of that screen time yet - unless you're reading articles like these and other great content that our editorial staff has already crafted to help you do more. Google did add Screen Time as a new area to their Play Services in 4.4 Kogan, which is a part of the platform Google offers to enable analytics. That means more people may have their eyes on it, so it's time we took a look at how Screen Time works, exactly. There are some tools you'll need, before, along with the official guidelines. You'll know you've reached your allowance if you're using Screen Time:

You need Android 4.0 or newer You need to have Google Play Services installed. The Android version is the important one here - even if Google Play Services is installed on non-4.0 versions of Android, you'll still be able to track data across apps.
