Are the best socks a different size?

In general, the most comfortable socks are usually the biggest socks. Socks come in many different types including, ankle socks, knee highs, knee socks, toe socks, and traditional cotton socks. Ankle socks are often paired with flat shoes and tend to have thicker padding than other sock types.

Knee highs are the most popular sock type. Knee highs are the ultimate go-to sock when you are wearing shorts or pants that reach below your knee. Knee highs have more cushioning than the rest of the sock types and are perfect for both active wear and business casual. They are the most versatile sock type and will provide you with an hourglass shape for years to come.

Traditional cotton socks are also very common and provide great comfort. Many traditional cotton socks have a thin mesh lining to prevent chaffing and are suitable for any occasion. Traditional cotton socks are also machine washable so they are easy to care for and perfect for the gym or everyday wear.

Knee socks are often worn with closed toed shoes and are often used for travel because they can be easily folded in your bag. Knee socks come in a variety of styles including short style, ankle high style, and tall style. There is a size range from women's small to men's large. As you get older, you may find it easier to get a higher foot up into knee high style and ankle socks.

Toe socks are the least common sock type. Toe socks are worn to give your toes extra support and a little extra warmth. They have a thicker padding than other sock types and provide a comfortable shape. They can also come in a variety of colors to match your outfit. Toe socks are the perfect sock for every day wear.

Which style is best for your shoe? If you are purchasing a size, be sure to get your size. It may take a few weeks for your feet to change to fit the new sock type. However, if you get your new socks before your feet do, then you are in the right ball park for a happy foot.

What kind of socks do podiatrists recommend?

I work at a state hospital and have a hard time finding comfortable shoes.

The nurse says we can't wear heels because the patients are at risk for blood clots and what not. I know they are working long hours in very busy rooms, so comfort is a priority for them. I've bought orthopedic shoes with good support but they are too soft and get blisters easily.

Is there something I can wear that will be comfortable on my feet all day but still protect them from the rough floors? What kinds of socks? I don't wear socks inside the shoes and then tuck my toes in, and I don't want to wear cotton socks because that's what the nurse at the state hospital I work at has been telling us. She says the patients at her ward are always walking on floors and the nurses, doctors and OTs have to work hard. Her point is that if they wear socks it's impossible for them to make sure the floors are clean.

If I don't wear socks inside shoes, how should I dress? Should I wear pantyhose and then tuck my toes in like I am wearing a pair of slippers? Or can I wear my regular jeans and just tuck my toes in? Thanks so much! I'm very frustrated at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The best type of socks to wear on your feet are thin ankle support socks. I don't know what size you are, but just google "ankle support socks" and you should be able to find what you are looking for. But basically they keep your feet cool, comfortable, and dry all day.

If you aren't concerned about your feet being dirty or anything like that, I think anything would do for your shoes. They won't do much for your feet, but if you are more concerned with comfort than anything else, than they should do fine.

A couple of my friends are big fans of "cushioning insoles", which are pretty much just thick cushioned socks with a sole made to be worn inside shoes. They are great for walking around and standing on hard surfaces, but I'm not sure how well they work for stairs.

What is best material for mens socks?

I have a pair of mens socks that I've had for a while, and they're really starting to show wear, especially in the heel.

The problem is, I don't have a big pair of scissors to cut them up, and they're too big to cut up myself. I'm pretty handy with a knife and a saw, but I don't think I could cut them up without ruining them. I've read that you can cut them up with an Xacto knife, but it seems like that would hurt more than I'd be willing to take. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I could cut them up, or a better material to use instead?

A pair of scissors will do the job (assuming you have a pair of good scissors). Don't worry about ruining them by cutting them up. Just cut them up into two sections, one ankle section and one toe section, and try to keep them as similar as possible.

If you have a pair of scissors that can cut through leather, then leather will work fine. If you have scissors that can cut through cord, then cord will work fine. If you have scissors that can cut through fabric, then fabric will work fine.

You can also try cutting them up with a knife, but that won't work as well. If you have a knife that can cut through fabric, then fabric will work fine. If you have a knife that can cut through leather, then leather will work fine. If you have a knife that can cut through cord, then cord will work fine.

I do know that when I tried to cut them up with an Xacto knife, it hurt, but I didn't see any blood and everything seemed to work okay. Thanks for the suggestions. Last edited by mjwong; February 19th, 2026 at 11:21 AM. Reason: added link to suggested scissors
