How do I scan a QR code with Netflix on my TV?
Netflix's Q&A service is now a lot more useful.
If you don't have a Chromecast device, you can now download the Netflix app on your phone, tablet or computer, then point it at the TV using the QR code it generates to scan and play content on your screen.
To get started, navigate to www.netflix.com/en/android, click on the QR code button and scan the code using the app on your mobile device or the app on your computer. You can also open the page in a browser and click on the button to generate the code.
We know this may not be the most convenient way to watch Netflix, but you'll at least get access to our TV show recommendations and our favorite movies.
Why is Netflix not allowing screen mirroring?
I know that they have a policy of not allowing screen mirroring on the iPhone (which is stupid if you ask me), but why is it that Netflix isn't allowing it on other devices? Is there any difference between how they handle Android vs. IOS? I have an LG G3 with Android 4.4, and I can't seem to find any way to access the device's screen via a browser, like a Chromecast does. It only seems to work via a phone app, or via a USB-to-HDMI adapter.
The iPhone only supports Miracast, which is just the same as DLNA but is a standards-based specification. So, no need to make new apps to do it. DLNA is a proprietary Apple technology.
That's what I was thinking. I have an LG G3 and I would love to use the phone's screen on my TV.
I would assume that both Apple and Google are on the same side with respect to streaming movies and music from the cloud. But their policies regarding DRM and content protection seem to be at odds.
It makes sense that Netflix wants the best experience for users of the service. Their customers pay them money to watch movies and TV shows. But if that were the end of the story, they would have no reason to develop their own streaming technology and would allow their customers to use whatever they want, regardless of whether they actually own the rights to the material.
You don't own the content that Netflix streams. You only own the right to watch it. That's why they require DRM.
I wouldn't buy a subscription to Netflix if it was not for the exclusive content. For example, the entire catalogue of original shows from Starz and HBO. But their own programming is not worth my time.
I would think that Netflix would be happy to accommodate those who can't get their content through other means. It would be a shame to force customers to use a different service simply because they don't have the right equipment to use Netflix.
I know that they have a policy of not allowing screen mirroring on the iPhone (which is stupid if you ask me), but why is it that Netflix isn't allowing it on other devices?
How do I Connect my Netflix from my phone to my TV?
The Netflix app for Roku and Chromecast only work on Android, but not iOS.
The Roku remote will connect your phone to the TV in time to come. Until that happens, I have a workaround for you! It's called the Netflix Android app for Chromecast. If you've got an Andoid device, this will work for you.
I have all of these: How do I use it? Connect to your wifi network. Download and install this app for your phone from Google Play Store. Launch and select the "play" button at the bottom of the screen. Select the top row of icons in the top middle area. Pick Connect to cast for Netflix and select your Chromecast from the Netflix logo to the left of Cast to (See below). The Cast screen will appear on your TV. (This is where things get fun) Watch an episode of your favorite show on Netflix without the Roku, and watch an episode of the same show on Hulu using Netflix as your source. Hulu will add up to 8 hours of additional streaming time without the Roku. If you're streaming from the computer this doesn't add up to hours of additional streaming time, but you could choose a series you haven't seen yet and sit down to watch.
Chromecast doesn't support HDCP copy protection on iOS. So when Roku says it's working with Apple, it works with some other Chromecast models too, just most likely not the most recent ones. So yes, you should be able to stream from iPad and iPhone if you bought an Apple TV. You'll be fine with Samsung and LG devices. It also won't work on your Nintendo switch or game console.
It doesn't work on Kindle Fire tablets yet. How does it work? Netflix streams video directly from their servers. They don't need to know what type of content your streaming.
Roku streams video files that are streamed over the Internet. They need to know what type of content you're watching. When you connect Roku to your device, Roku asks the device if it knows anything about it. It might not, so it sends a simple GET request to each website and gets it's info. It'll use the site or page you just asked Roku to stream from to create a webpage to display.
