How do I connect my TP-Link router to a VPN server?
Before you start configuring the router and the server, it's necessary that you know how to set up a VPN on a PC or laptop.
You can use our tutorial or if you know absolutely nothing about networking, you can watch these 2 videos on setting up your first VPN from scratch: Step 1: On your laptop, sign in to your TP-Link account. If you don't have an account already created you can create one for free, and then start the process of connecting your device to your WLAN or modem.
Once you're logged in and have logged into your router account, click WAN Settings in the top right of your TP-Link device. After scrolling down and reaching the bottom of the WAN Settings page, there will be an item on the list called Connection Status. Click on it.
A sub menu should open which will have a link called VPN. Scroll down and click on it.
You will be asked to pick a service provider from a list of servers for your access point which may look very complicated. Don't worry; we'll walk you through it with some simple rules and explanations. First, choose the option you want to create.
Once you've selected the service provider of your choice you'll be taken to the next screen which is to input your username and password for the new service you're creating. You'll need a username and a password combination that makes sense. The username needs to match the user name for your WLAN and broadband connection, so you could pick the same user name as a combination or just pick a random name that makes sense. The second input is the password for the wireless user that has access to this service.
After inputting your login information and clicking Continue, there will be another screen you'll need to fill out. Here you need to make sure that you fill out all the available data, including the Password Encryption Method and IPv4 and IPv6.
Make sure to select encryption as SHA-1 for your password encryption method. For security reasons, using only the strongest encryption method is recommended, as hackers may have already discovered weaknesses in weaker methods.
Can I put a VPN on my TP-Link router?
I have a TP-Link Archer C9 and I'd like to setup a VPN.
I've been reading online and was wondering if this is something that can be done. Here's what I've found.
Can I put a VPN on my TP-Link Archer C9? You can add a VPN to a Linksys router, but it isn't easy. You need the router's firmware (in TP-Link's case, that means you need a newer firmware), a USB modem with an Ethernet port, and an Ethernet cable. The procedure involves flashing your router's firmware, connecting a USB modem to it, and using the modem as a wireless access point. Here's what to do:
TP-Link Archer C9 instructions. Download the TP-Link Archer C9 firmware. This isn't super hard. It only needs a .zip file download, which you can find at the official TP-Link website. The link is below.
Create an image of your flash drive. Bootable images are better than non-bootable images because if something goes wrong you can still boot your computer and run the program again.img file you want to make is called TPC9v1.0.11611A00. To create the image, use the Win32 Disk Imager program. If you're using Windows, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Win32 Disk Imager. On the target disk, select the Create a bootable image of this disk option, select the right click options for the file type, and select the Image source option, then find your .
Insert the flash drive into your computer, start up Win32 Disk Imager, select the target image, select Write, and press Start. Once it's complete, insert your flash drive into the router. Open the TP-Link app, scroll down to the settings section, and click System. Click on Network Settings, then click WAN Settings.
