Is FireStick blocking VPN?
If you're using a VPN service, you may notice that FireStick isn't playing nice with your network.
You may be wondering if this is because FireStick is blocking your VPN connection or simply because FireStick doesn't support VPN connections. Let's take a look.
If you are connected to a VPN, you have many options when it comes to streaming media. You can stream through your network, use your IP address for a VPN service, use a special port to connect to streaming services, or even attempt to connect through a port number different from the one your VPN service is assigned to. FireStick supports all of these methods but does not support VPN connections. The following image shows which methods you can use to stream with FireStick.
Note: If you use a VPN connection, FireStick will use your VPN server as your home server, and all streaming is done through your home server. To see the methods you can use to stream media with FireStick, click the "Settings" tab. This will bring you to a screen that shows the various streaming methods you can use. In this image, you can see that all the methods that don't use a VPN connection are greyed out.
You can use a VPN connection through your home server, however the method requires a little bit of setup on your home network. For example, you would set up an OpenVPN connection on your home server so that the devices connected to your router can connect directly through your home server.
As another example, you could use a port other than the one that your home server is assigned to. For example, your home server is assigned a port 8443, but you may want to connect to the streaming services at port 3128. You can use your router's firewall settings to allow traffic through port 8443 to port 3128.
If you are using a VPN, FireStick will support all of these options, but I recommend that you select the "Through Home Server" method. My wife has a FireStick hooked up to our home network and it is working fine but we are unable to stream via this device. Any suggestions? We have tried rebooting and everything and the FireStick keeps telling us to check "Settings" for help. Help please!
I am not sure if this is really a FireStick issue or if it is related to our ISP.
Does Windscribe work with Amazon FireStick?
I have an Amazon Firestick and a Roku 1.
I was thinking of adding the streaming app to the Firestick so that I can watch Hulu on my TV. I am wondering if there is any issues with the Roku or my Firestick. Is Windscribe good for this? Or is it just not recommended to use it on Roku?
I have a Firestick, but I do not use it for streaming. I bought it mainly for Plex and Netflix. The Firestick does a great job with these services. If you're looking for something with Hulu, I'd recommend purchasing a Roku instead. I find that the Firestick is best for things like Kodi, Plex, and Netflix.
Windscribe works on Roku and Firestick. However you will need to make sure that your WiFi is strong enough to handle the traffic because you are basically turning the device into a wireless modem. If you're using WiFi for your internet connection you'll want to use a router with the best possible signal that you can afford. Most smartphones and tablets these days have 4G LTE. Not everyone has access to that, so if you can't get it on your Firestick it might better to get a Roku instead.
I own a Fire Stick with Kodi installed. I also have a Chromecast which works well with Roku. But Windscribe works flawlessly with Roku so I highly recommend getting that if you have it. But you'll want to get one that is as powerful as you can.
I have two Firesticks, one connected to a high quality projector and the other to the HDTV. I would definitely recommend this. As long as you have a fast Internet connection, they work great. When went to a friends house who had no Wi-Fi, I used the Chromecast. I was able to cast Hulu onto my big screen TV and Hulu Plus worked perfectly fine on my Firestick.
I have an Amazon Firestick (with Plex) and a Roku 3. Using the Chromecast on the Firestick is awesome for Plex and other services. It connects directly to your router and I believe it works off your 3G/4G network. Not sure if I'm correct, but that's what I believe. Anyway, the Roku 3 is connected to my main TV. It's connected to a 5.1 receiver for a sound system. The Roku works very well with my Samsung TV and my wireless speakers.
Why isn't my VPN working on FireStick?
I have a few apps that are still running on FireStick, but I can't access them.
The apps are running on the Fire TV, and the FireStick is connected to my home network via WiFi.e. I am using the same password as the rest of the devices on the network. Why can't I access the apps?
FireStick can't see the VPN server on your LAN. When the FireStick connects to the VPN server, it is assigned an IP address that is different from the local IP address that it normally uses. The FireStick doesn't know that it is using the VPN server's IP address, so it can't connect to the VPN server.
