How much is the R2-D2 droid worth?

How big was R2-D2?

I was wondering if there was a definitive source on the size of R2-D2.

I've been reading in various sources that he's about two feet tall and weighs about one ton, but I have no idea if that's true. Thanks!

Re: ? He's two meters tall (1.2m), weighed about 0.5 tonnes and had a mass of 1.0kg in "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi".

He is listed as being slightly less than 1.5m tall in Return of the Jedi.e. I've also seen other things where he's described as being approximately 2m, but not quite sure where that information comes from.

EDIT: From the same book that I was talking about, it's also mentioned that: "The Wookiee's head is 3 meters (10ft) from his back to the tip of his tail." So. What does this mean? There are several sites, including wikipedia and starwars.com, that will tell you that the robot was approximately 2.0 m tall. I have never been able to confirm these figures because, after watching all the episodes over and over again, I have noticed that the size of the R2 unit varies with the setting in which it appears. In Return of the Jedi, R2 is said to be 2. In A New Hope, he is said to be 2. I haven't been able to find any source that specifies how big the unit was in the various settings in which it appears. I do know that in Return of the Jedi, the size of R2 is measured as being 8/10ths of a meter larger than in A New Hope. The difference in size between the two is probably a factor of the difference in height from the waist to the top of R2 in each scene.

How big are the droids you build at Disney?

This time I have to laugh.

What if it was a movie where Disney and the Disney Channel decide to make a huge deal with Marvel Studios? They are working on such a thing currently and that may be why they asked about The Mandalorian.

I have to agree the idea sounds really good. However, who is going to write and direct it? Is it going to be like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Lucasfilm? No need, it is already here. But it will be amazing no matter what.

The only way Disney would get this film made is if it had a good screenplay. I'm not saying we haven't had that lately in the action-adventure genre, but it's starting to feel like we had them for years in 2015-2016 with The Force Awakens and Rogue One. And now, there are rumors going around that The Rise of Skywalker will be out in December. You think they can add a few things in the middle after it's finished to make it feel different from the rest?

But it won't be a new version of that movie either. Disney is trying to do something completely different. Just look at the name; The Mandalorian. Maybe there's some hidden message behind that name or maybe you just shouldn't care.

Regardless, with The Rise of Skywalker coming out soon after, it's only a matter of time before a Star Wars TV series gets greenlit by Disney. What is my prediction? Spock meets Star Trek.

Are you enjoying The Mandalorian more than Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Or are you more interested in the next Star Wars movie? As always, you can hit me up on Twitter @B0bsideOW!

How much is the R2-D2 droid worth?

I was reading the Wikipedia page on R2-D2 and noticed that it says he was created in the same year as the Millennium Falcon.

Can anyone tell me how much an R2 droid would be worth today? I'm just curious, especially since I've never seen one in person.

Replies to This Discussion. It depends what you mean by "worth". If you mean "value" then it's very high - many people want one for their own collection, and there is a market for collector's items like this.

If you mean "valuable" then it's probably no more than 20,000 - it's a big space frame with limited features and an expensive power supply. And if you mean "money" then you're talking about what it would cost to buy one from the manufacturer. If you were to find a dealer who had one in stock then you'd have to pay around 20,000 for a completed R2 unit. If you had the ability to create your own then it would probably be much cheaper, but even then you're not going to get one for less than 20,000.

That's a fair bit, but my dad has a few things that are worth a lot more, he's had his suitcases on eBay for quite a while now, there's a great number of them being sold, and they're getting up there in price too. What would you use it for? You could use it to keep your car keys safe, or something. It'd be good for that.

If you're talking about the droid's worth to someone who's looking to buy one, the answer is 20,000. They don't sell them for that. They'll sell them for between 20,000 and 50,000 depending on the condition and quality. There's a few R2s for sale on eBay and Amazon at the moment.
