How do I stop Safari from launching Apps on my iPhone?

How do I stop Safari from redirecting to an app?

I've been asked to stop a web page from redirecting users to an app on their iOS device.

The pages have the target="app" attribute and I can't find any way to stop them. There are some suggestions on this site, but nothing that works for iOS 6 or newer. The suggestion to remove the target attribute from the tag works but that's not a good idea because it breaks links to the web page.

I am using JavaScript to stop redirects (based on answer from a while ago): function stopredirect(e). If you're in a tag, then you should be able to call preventDefault() on the event passed to your function.

You can then use a regular tag to go somewhere else.

The short answer is that you can't. You could prevent it with a script like: . click here Which displays

blah
before you click away. But of course, this also prevents you from doing anything else.

How to get Safari to not open the App Store?

Hey, I'm new to the forums and this seems like a useful thread.

I can't seem to figure out how to stop the App Store from opening when I click on links. (It's a pretty small issue, but I'm hoping it can be fixed). I have a MBP with 10.6.8 installed and I'd like to keep it that way.

I have found several suggestions:1. Go into Preferences -> General -> and uncheck 'Open new tabs in background'2. Right click on a link and select open with 'safari', 'safari -profile' or 'safari -private-window'3.4. Go into System Preferences -> General -> and uncheck 'Open new tabs in background'5. Go to System Preferences -> Internet and uncheck 'Open new tabs in background'6. Right click on a link and select open with 'browser', 'safari -private-window' or 'safari -profile'7. Go to System Preferences -> General and uncheck 'Open new tabs in background'

None of these work for me. I get the new tab, but the App Store opens up as well. Also, right clicking on the app store is not an option for me, as my Mac does not have a right mouse button.

Hi,i have just come across this topic after reading something about safari on a web page. I am not sure why the app store would open at all as you are not trying to install an app. My guess is there is some sort of malware (hopefully not). Have you tried doing a "hard reset" of your computer and removing everything that you have added over time? If you are using a different computer, it might be worth getting rid of all the information that you have stored on the computer, in case the problem persists after you have done this. Try updating the system via the Apple update site, or download an "app store clean install" program, and have it fix any problems that it finds. Good luck!

I'm not using another computer, I have it plugged directly into my MBP with no network connectivity. There are no apps on the computer except a couple that are on the computer since I got it 2 years ago. It's never had any viruses or anything like that.

How do I stop Safari from launching Apps on my iPhone?

Safari launches Apps when an App's window is displayed in the iPhone's screen.

Since it's not possible for an App developer to determine how an iPhone is going to display its App, users often find themselves launching Apps they don't really want to open. One example is the weather-finder App for Apple Maps, which loads in the background before anyone notices it's there.

App loading in fullscreen mode doesn't have to be such a pain point though. If the user navigates back to their homepage or home folder via the iOS control center and they never wanted to load an App on your phone anyway, then maybe Safari wouldn't launch anything new? So what do I need to do to stop Safari from loading Apps and stop the pain of having to select the correct App when I want to open the camera? How to Block Launch From Safari.e. This first method will prevent Safari from loading App windows while keeping the app icon in the home screen: Open the Settings app and navigate to Control Center. If you can't access Control Center on your iPhone, try restarting it. Once you see the home screen again, open the Control Center settings.

Tap Display & Brightness and choose Apps from the list. Tap Use Control Center. Under Use Control Center, choose "Disable" from the menu that appears. If you do this, Safari will still take over iOS's control center so that some of the controls may be disabled. The Control Center is not needed by users anymore, as these days users usually rely on the Home or Home & Lock screen widgets to start switching between Apps and Settings on their iPhone. Therefor, you can disable this App, too. To do this navigate to the same App you just used to select it. When you scroll down on the top you will notice another Setting called Control Center. Tap on it and click on "Disable". This should disable the control center.

Another way of disabling the Control Center from coming up in Safari on the iPhone is to just completely prevent any third party App from opening windows at all. You can only do this through iOS's Settings by heading to the General settings. From here you navigate to the App you wish to control the Safari behavior with.
