How do I connect my AX1800 to WiFi?
The most simple way is to enter the accesspoint and open a browser.
Navigate to Connecting a laptop to a WiFi network can be done in the same way: Enter the accesspoint in Windows. Open a browser, navigate to. You will see two things: 1) SSID for AP. 2) Port (or rather default:3000). If you have an ad-hoc WiFi network and want to use the AX1800 as its gateway (connecting 2 devices simultaneously), select it from this list, and set its IP. The AX1800 is able to send traffic directly to the selected network, but doesn't have internet access itself. It will need to ask for a certificate so it knows the connection is OK.
If you've done this: select the same network when restarting the device, the SSID name should change to 'Your name' without being selected, so there's no need to change it.
Is TP-Link Deco AX1800 a modem?
I need to buy a new home router/ modem, and I was looking at the TP-Link Deco AX1800.
It looks like it does pretty much what I need it to do, but I don't really know if it's a modem.
If it's a modem, does anyone know what kind of internet service it supports? For example, I've had Verizon DSL before, so I'd like to know if I need to have an internet connection that can do more than DSL speeds, or if I can get away with something that just does DSL. Is there a way to tell if a device is a modem or not? Thanks! Re: ? I am currently using a TP-LINK Deco AX1800 which is a Home Router - Internet and Phone. When I googled it I found a lot of things about why it is not a modem, such as it supports GSM so there is no need to plug it into the modem, etc. However, what I have noticed is that when it is plugged in on my GPRS Modem it will beep and stop working. If I unplug the Deco AX1800 from the Modem then everything works fine. I have even bought a GSM SIM card from Orange UK but this doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any ideas why this happens?
Thank you, I think I've got it fixed.
How to set up AX1800 Deco X20?
There are some instructions about this model and it's firmware but they were a little obsolete and are too complex for us to put here in English.
For an example of how to program the model you should look at this website (it's in German language but it's OK to just read and translate).
Also, there is a nice tutorial about AX1800 DecoX20 firmware update on Youtube, which I think it's really the best one and I think you can find something about this tutorial if you Google DecoX20 firmware update. But let's get to it: 1) Download firmware. First step will be downloading firmware for DecoX20. There are many guides and how-to's out there on how to download and flash firmware. They are often complicated and sometimes wrong so you'll have to search for your own directions. I'm providing instructions here that's as simple as possible. So here we go:
Go to this google cache link and download firmware. Download firmware. You can always check the version of your firmware.
Check it. The link provided above has the firmware.
To open it open a browser or a hex editor like HxD (for example: start the program, paste the link into the blank area in the middle of the screen and click on Open. There you will see a lot of text with an HEX Dump (HXD is the program name) and an image of the firmware (just in case you don't know how HXD reads Hex Dump. Look the screenshot bellow):
After that, you will see the firmware info: Save the text for flashing on PC. 2) Create a folder to extract firmware into. Next step will be extracting firmware in the right way. So before that, create a new folder inside the C: drive named AX1800Firmware.
You can do it by right clicking on the desktop, selecting Create New Folder, naming it AX1800Firmware and moving it there.
Does TP-Link Deco have to be plugged into router?
I am trying to create a VPN by using TP-Link Deco V2 device with the Windows 10 system but is their anyway I can connect the Deco device to system in-order to make the work.
If yes how can I achieve this? I am aware of Cisco and similar devices can do that but my requirement is TP-Link. For your information I am running WIFI connection and also I have USB port available for external USB storage. Deco does not need to be plugged into anything else. (It is just a router which is used as a wireless access point.) Its main purpose is to act as a wireless repeater so other networks can not penetrate your network without going through Deco.
You should connect your computer directly to your WiFi Network and configure an internet connection with your router. After configuring Wifi with Deco connected to your router then you can set VPN settings in your router for the connection.
For this you need to configure your router through web GUI provided. For the same you can follow these steps: On your laptop or other device connected to the router, open a web browser and go to "". This will redirect you to your router login page. On this login screen there is no admin username or password for your router unless you have one. To login you should select admin then hit enter. Note if your internet/network name does not have . In the name you might not be able to login to your router directly. In that case try setting up from a web browser.
Once you login you need to click on advanced options where network settings are located. You should see some option for vpn or similar. This is where you should setup the settings. (I don't have access to router to do this.)
You can configure various other settings here like bandwidth control.
